There is a huge difference between simply pressing your spouse's body, and giving him or her a proper massage.
A massage is relaxing and has tremendous health benefits.
Massage facilitates healing by improving circulation. It also increases the number of red blood cells in the body and has the effect of lowering blood pressure. Toxins are eliminated effectively and muscles become supple.
The quality of the skin is enhanced due to improved circulation and nourishment. Your skin will start glowing if you massage it regularly. Oil massages also help keep your entire body well moisturized, reducing the likelihood of developing stretch marks in the future.
Massage stimulates the digestive system and reduces spasms and cramps.
In addition, massage makes the joints more flexible, reduces knots and tensions in the body, increases the range of motion of joints, tones up the body and relieves congestion in the lungs.
There is a large difference between simply pressing your spouse's body, and giving him or her a proper massage. Now that we have seen the numerous benefits a massage offers, let us go through a few massage maneuvers.
Does your partner spend hours everyday in front of the computer or doing work involving hands usage? If yes, you could consider treating him to an armmassage.
Ask your spouse to sit in front of you and place his arm on your shoulder. Then, with both your hands, knead his muscles using your thumb and knuckles, as though you are kneading dough.
After doing this, place one arm on your spouse's upper arm, and the other, on his wrist. Rub your partners arm with your hands moving in opposite direction. This stimulates the muscles.
Have your spouse lie down with his arm up. Starting from the shoulder, hold his arm in your hands and slide your hands towards his wrists, quickly gripping and releasing his arm again and again while sliding it, to give a pulsing effect.
Do each of these movements ten times. Your partner will be left feeling relaxed and refreshed.
One of the best rewards after a long day's work would be to sit down and get your feet massaged. Here's how to give a great footmassage.
Begin by stimulating circulation in the feet. Hold the foot with one hand, and stroke in an upward direction with the other. Do this thirty times, making sure you stroke the top half and the bottom half of the feet.
Holding the bottom of the foot with one hand, gently rotate the foot with the other to give the feet and ankles a light stretch. Rotate around six times in each direction.
Now it's time to press the feet with your fingertips. Using both hands, press the feet in a downward direction, right up to the ankles. Don't leave out the ankles while massaging the foot.
Keeping your thumbs on the top of the feet and your fingers under, curl the top of your feet downwards and inwards. After curling your feet, massage the area between the bones with your thumbs.
When this is done, finish off by pulling the toes gently and individually. Press them lightly as you pull them.
