Tips for Losing Weight after Delivery

Pregnancy is the time when all diet plans are out for a toss.  Even after the delivery, the new mother cannot immediately go on a diet as the child and her body needs nutrition. There are some easy ways of regaining shape after delivery along with allowing the body to cope with the rigors of childbirth so that the new mother is full of energy. Follow the tips.

Giving birth to a child is an overwhelming emotion. On one hand, the new mother is filled with this unbridled joy of having a cute little angel in her arms, while on the other there is this anxiety whether she can cope with the hormonal changes and regain her shape. Pregnancy involves a lot of weight gain, which is normal.

Weight gain during pregnancy is essential as the baby requires the nutritional reserves and it is under the formative period. Post-partum, mothers are on the look out for ways through which they could shed those extra kilos. After allowing the body to cope with the rigors of childbirth, women can consider the following tips after due consultation with their physicians:

Regulate your Diet

It is important to continue eating healthy food, as the new mother has to breastfeed the baby too. It is vital to check on what you eat, as it will affect the milk you are feeding your baby. Therefore, your diet must comprise of high nutrients and be low in fat. You can include a whole lot of whole grains, fruits, green vegetables, pastas and lean meat. Aerated drinks are best avoided. Regulate the amount of sugar you add in your coffee and tea. This will go a long way to lose that extra weight.

Exercise

Rigorous exercise may not be possible immediately at this stage. The heavy workouts should not be considered now, even though it helps to lose weight faster. An easy stroll every morning and evening can help you to lose weight if you walk at a medium pace at least for a few kilometers. This means that a minimum of twenty minutes of walk is essential if you wish to lose weight steadily. The other viable alternatives are swimming, cycling or choose from a wide variety of outdoor games like squash, badminton or tennis.

Breastfeed your Baby

Some mothers tend to avoid this, but regularly breastfeeding your baby will help you to lose weight naturally. It has been observed that mothers who breastfeed regain their figure much quickly compared to those who do not. Along with the nutrients, breastfeeding allows many calories in the form of fat to escape from your body. Breastfeeding should be continued at least until six months after your childbirth.

Drink Lots of Water

A high amount of water intake is found to facilitate the flow of the milk and simultaneously helps in the melting of the body fat. You should drink at least eight glasses of water every day in order to lose weight fast.

Yoga

Yoga and Pilates under expert supervision can also help you lose weight fast. Yoga is very helpful as it helps to fight depression and other anxiety feelings that are usually found to ail the new mothers. When you practice yoga at the crack of the dawn and follow this up with exercises at any other time of the day, you can feel better and lose weight easily too. However, it is important to ensure that these workouts are regular and consistent.

Weight loss after delivery should be gradual and not drastic as it may affect your and your baby’s health. Therefore, practice your weight loss regimen after delivery through right consultation and management.
