My brother, Jack has been afraid of the dark for his whole life. When ever the lights unexpectedly go out, he gets very scared. Once he even admitted that someone was in the house. We tried to pacify him but he remains frightened. .

my daughter has exactly the same problem. we tried all this but it has been worsening only. we didn't leave her though alone while she was awake asking her to sleep as she wouldn't sleep at all.

my daughter is 10 and has been afraid to sleep alone since she was six. if she's really tired, she has no problem lying down and going to sleep, but most of the time, she's very fearful. this is more prominent if lights go out. she sleeps with lights on. is this concerning at this age?

Our society is built on the idea that the dark is associated with evil and frightening things. Movies, TV shows and other social activities help to tell your child in the dark that scary things will happen. In the dark, children feel alone and vulnerable and unprotected.
