Wizard Theme

Wizard Theme

Children around the globe are enraptured by the tale of Harry Potter. Make your child's dream come true by bringing some Potter magic into his bedroom.

Does your child shy away from sleeping in his bedroom? Would he rather spend the night with his parents? Does bedtime usually translate into battle-time? These are common problem faced by most parents. A surefire way to ensure your child falls in love with his bedroom and doesn't want to leave it is to pick a theme and decorate your child's bedroom according to the theme.
These days Harry Potter is all the rage, so why not do up your child's room with this wizard's theme?

Door

In the novel, Harry belongs to Gryffindor House in school. The entrance to his dorms has a portrait of a fat lady. Purchase a wooden plaque and get the words "Gryffindor" engraved or screwed on them in calligraphic lettering. Hang this sign on your child's door. Under this sign, hang a picture of a portrait of a fat lady.

Toys

A child's bedroom seems almost incomplete without a stuffed toy. Get a large white owl and place it on a triangular corner shelf by itself, above your child's bed. This is Hedwig, Harry's owl. Let other assorted toys include a wizard's pointed hat and stuffed wizard and witch dolls.

Broom

Purchase a broom and get it painted any colour your child chooses. You could also paint the words 'Nimbus 2000' in gold, on the broom.

Hourglass

Hourglasses make interesting and fascinating decoration items. Purchase a large hourglass and place it in your child's bedroom. You may find an hourglass in an antique store, or simply ask your local carpenter to make one for you. Your carpenter will probably not work on glass, but if you're lucky, he just might be able to organize someone to work on the glass for you. An hourglass is a timeless decoration and is worth the investment. It will also go very well with your child's wizard room theme.

Walls

If possible, consider painting the room, or maybe just one wall, dark blue, with silver or gold stars. You can ask your painter to do the job. They will need star stencils. If you think stars on the walls may be a little too much, you could simply get little silver star stickers and paste them on the mirror. Don't paste too many, a few should be fine. Also, paste a few stars on the wall opposite the mirror so they reflect into the mirror.
Get a dark blue bedspread to match the paint. Harry Potter bedspreads and throws are also available and would be perfect if you can manage to organize one. You could also hang the throw on a wall - they will definitely be more effective than posters. You can purchase them Get dark blue curtains to match the paint, with gold or silver curtain cords depending on the colour of the stars on the walls.
Get two or three Harry Potter posters and paste them on one wall in your child's bedroom.

Books

And of course, the most important part - don't forget to include the books in your bookshelf!
