Week 32: Baby's Development in Week 32

Week 32: Baby

Are you aware of the bodily changes and developments in a baby by the 32nd week of pregnancy? Read on and find out.

These are the last weeks of pregnancy that might get very tiring. However, on the positive side you are getting closer to meeting your child.

Baby’s Development in 32nd Pregnancy Week

Finally the baby's head is in correct proportion to his body and she looks very much like she would at birth, except for the fact that she is still quite thin. Were she to be born this week she would have an extremely good chance of survival as her lungs are almost completely formed. As not enough insulating fat reserves have been deposited underneath the skin, your doctor would place her in an incubator to greatly improve her chances. Other than that your baby is completely viable and well able to survive outside the womb.
In fact, by this week she will be able to differentiate between light and dark. As she has grown much larger and has less space to move freely, you will be able to feel the slightest movements with force, like when she swallows some amniotic fluid and hiccups. Or if her feet get caught under your ribs. This would certainly make you quite uncomfortable and the only solution would be for you to maintain a straight posture. As they say, why stand when you can sit and why sit if you can lie down? It would be wise for you to follow this advice as your baby is certainly growing fast.
This week your baby measures over one foot and four inches or 40.5cm. and weighs about three pounds and ten ounces or 1.6kg.

Bodily Changes and Pregnancy Care

Your uterus is now 5 inches above your bellybutton. This might give rise to some breathing troubles and you might experience shortness of breath. Your growing uterus is now exerting pressure that is becoming the major cause of indigestion and heartburn.
If you have been enjoying a risk free pregnancy, you are likely to continue with the same. However, do not underestimate the importance of visiting your healthcare professional every month now. You may also be asked to make a visit twice every week and thereafter you may be asked to visit your doctor once in every 7 days.
If you have decided to save the umbilical cord for your baby, this is the time you need to think about it seriously. You may talk to your doctor about details of stem cell banking. The cord blood stem cells are considered medically beneficial for treating several diseases. You need to talk about your medical history and the risk factors shall be evaluated thereafter.

Some Pregnancy Tips for this Week

Since we all look forward to a healthy and happy pregnancy, here are shared some tips to keep you in good shape this week. Read along for some helpful pregnancy tips:
  • Do not stay in one position for long. Stand up if you are sitting for long and also move your legs while sitting down.
  • Walking around for sometime shall also ensure good blood circulation.
  • You can enjoy bathing in warm water to relax your muscles.
  • Contractions often result from dehydration, so make sure to keep yourself hydrated by drinking some glasses of water.
  • You can enjoy a cup or warm milk with saffron in it.
  • Even if your contractions remain after trying these, you may consider getting in touch with your doctor.
Pregnancy symptoms like shortness of breath, fatigue, cramps, stretch marks, contractions and mood swings shall continue to bother you now. However, you may not be suffering from them for too long with your due date approaching fast.

When to Call Your Doctor?

While most of the above discussed pregnancy symptoms are normal, you must call the doctor in the following cases:
  1. If you experience spotting or bleeding.
  2. If you notice decrease in your foetal movement.
  3. If you think you are suddenly gaining weight and experiencing changes in vision, pain in abdomen, fatigue, dizziness and nausea.
  4. If you suffer from dry mouth or thirst most of the time. Also if you find your urine colour changing.
  5. If you experience any kind of discomfort.
  6. Notifying your doctor ahead of time can help avert most of the complications. So, good luck mommies! Hope you have a pleasant experience!
