Week 19: Development in Week 19

Learn about the developments that take place in a baby and pregnancy symptoms experienced by expecting mothers during the 19th week of pregnancy.

Pregnancy is the best gift that a wife can gift to her husband. That is the first step towards parenthood. It is not only about the birth of a baby, but of a mother and father too. It marks a huge change on both of their lives, and the lifestyle also takes a 360° turn. They become more responsible, more careful, and become more serious about life. It not only changes them mentally, but the mother undergoes a lot of physical changes as well.

Baby’s Development During 19th Week of Pregnancy

It looks like the baby is thirsty this week as he or she drinks up large amounts of amniotic fluid. Fortunately his or her gut has begun to secrete gastric juices that help in the absorption of the fluid and then send it to his or her little kidneys where it is filtered and excreted back into the amniotic sac. And then the cycle starts once again as he or she continues to drink the amniotic fluid. Yeeeesh.

The milk teeth buds have already developed and over the next few days the buds for the permanent teeth will begin to form behind the milk teeth ones.

This week your baby probably measures nine inches or 22.5cm.

The days pass by and your child grows inside you like a tiny plant. When weeks convert into months, the baby takes its full form by the 19th week. It usually weighs about half pound at this stage. It takes the size of a large mango. On top of the skin, a cheesy varnish develops on the body of the foetus. It is the protective layer, known as vernix caseosa.

Vernix in Latin means Varnish and Caseosa means Cheese. It has a greasy and oily texture, which guards the fragile body of the foetus also serves as a cream which prevents their bodies from wrinkling while taking birth. It usually shreds off before delivery, but often can be seen in many babies after they are born. The baby’s fluttering movements can be felt by the mother at this stage which is known as quickening. The heartbeat of the baby is very evident at this time, and often twice rapid than their mother.

Pregnancy Symptoms during 19th Week of Pregnancy

Here are the common pregnancy symptoms that can be experienced during the 19th week of pregnancy.

Mood Swings

During Pregnancy, mood swing is the basic and mostcommon symptom. It occurs due to various hormonal changes in body, and different people have different kinds of mood swings. Some people face extremely hyper tension, and others tend to become depressed.

Frequent Urination

This also occurs due to hormonal changes in body. The bladder gets full more quickly due to the rise in the rate of blood flow, which makes the mother frequently go to the washroom and pee.

Fatigue

When your body undergoes such rapid changed, it is quite evident that your body is facing with a lot of hurdles. All of these major challenges with which your body fights with contributes to your being exhausted or fatigued most of the time.

Nausea

Sometimes, few people face morning sickness or Nausea. They feel hungry almost all of the time, but they throw up as soon as they eat something.

Health Issues during the 19th Week of Pregnancy

Now that we know about the baby and the changes in its form by the 19th week, the mother may also face some health issues while undergoing this phase. Few of them are listed below.

Leg Cramps

Carrying a baby is an extremely difficult task, and our bodies need to carry the whole weight of the foetus till it takes birth. This results in swollen legs or muscle cramps. It stems from nothing but the overload of carrying the weight in their body.

Constipation

One of the common causes of constipation during pregnancy is increase in progesterone hormone. Drinking plenty of water, including fibrous food in the diet and exercising under the supervision of a certified trainer can help to deal with the issues like constipation during pregnancy.

Pregnancy is a very special thing that happens to a couple and we should make sure that all the pain undertaken by them are worthwhile. It is extremely important to have a proper family planning to ensure a good future for the child. Thus, equal care is needed for the mother as much as the child.
