How Should Dads Tell Stories to Preschoolers?

The preschool age is the right age to inculcate morals and values in children through stories. Find out how dads can tell stories to their preschoolers.
Enjoying the fatherhood to the fullest means spending quality time with your kids. Storytelling is one of the best ideas by which the bonding between the father and child grows up. The child feels safe in the arms of her father when she listens to a scary story.
To keep the child in her full jovial mood, you need to keep yourself at the service of your kids always. Here are some important tips given which you should follow when telling stories to your preschooler.

Keep the Fun Element

When both of you sit together for a story make sure that you retain the fun content of the story. Tell the story in such a way that you may have the full concentration of your child. He should be totally engrossed in the story. Your child should enjoy the fun element of the story without caring what is happening in the surroundings. If your preschooler asks you questions relating to the story do not feel disturbed. Instead feel happy because if she is asking you various questions relating to the story that means she has grown interest in what you are saying. It also means that you have her undivided attention which is very important. So even if her questions sound incoherent try to answer all his questions and queries with patience, and give your replies more interestingly.

Visual Element

Visual elements are catchier to a preschooler than verbal words. A kid while listening to a story creates her own world. If you can arrange some visual contents to the story that you are telling the kids will relate better to the story. Gaining a kid’s undivided attention is very difficult. You have to try many endeavours to achieve your kid’s attention. But a smile on their face shows contentment and it can buy all the happiness in the world which no material things can buy you. So it is always worth trying to see your preschooler’s smiling face.

Challenges

As you are describing a story to your kid, she instantly slips into her own world of imagination and starts thinking herself in the situations of the protagonist. She imagines herself as the hero of the story who has many problems to solve. She keeps on finding solutions to the problems in her own mind while listening to the story. So you have to present your story in such a way so that it becomes easier for your child to find out solutions of the various problems that you are talking about of the hero of the story.

Always Appreciate

While listening to your story if your kid comes up with various ideas how to solve the problems of the hero, listen to him patiently and appreciate to whatever she says. This might sound funny but still in order to grow her interest more on your story you have to appreciate whatever solutions she comes up with of the problems. Listen to her patiently.

Make Your Stories Lively

Storytelling to a kid should be in such a manner that the characters in the story look lively, as if your child can talk to the characters. It is very important for the child to relate to the characters in order to understand the characters. If your child does not understand what you are talking about he will lose interest and will start nagging. Your purpose of storytelling will also be lost. So make your stories lively.
These are the ways how a dad should tell stories to his little preschooler. Storytelling to a kid to keep her calm and quiet is an art. You should know the tactics how to pacify your kid because no one will understand your kid better than yourself and of course the mother of the child.
