Eco-Friendly Planet for Kids

Eco-Friendly Planet for Kids

Teach your child to respect our planet and do his or her bit for nature. Here's how you can encourage your children to save Mother Earth. And do not forget to practice what you preach.

How many of us turn off our computer monitors when we when we take a break or go out for lunch? Don't shut down the computer if you don't want to, but at the very least, switch off the monitor. Get your child into the habit of switching off the monitor of the computer every time he steps out of the room, if he's going to be gone for more than ten minutes.

Are you buying a new printer for your home? There are numerous printers now that have the option of printing on both sides of the paper. It makes sense in investing in these printers for kids, where they need to frequently print for their school and college projects.

While Doing Household Chores

Involving your kids in household chores is a good thing. Teach your kids to make sure that they do not use running water for washing utensils, fruits and vegetables. Instead of using running water, use water collected in tumblers to wash utensils, fruits and vegetables. This habit will save a lot of water. While cooking, always cover the pot with a lid so that food is cooked quickly and cooking gas is saved.

While Using Household Electronics

Teach your kids how proper use of electronics can help you to save electricity. If you are family of three or four, you must avoid using washing machine frequently. Instead you can collect your laundry and wash it once or twice a week. It will save a lot of power and water. While cleaning the house, avoid using vacuum cleaner on daily basis.

Make sure that you check energy efficiency labels while purchasing household appliances, especially air-conditioner, fridge. Do not install TV in every room of your house, instead have one TV and watch it together with your entire family. You will have a good time with family with this habit. Avoid using air-conditioners in winters; you can use fans instead of air-conditioners.

When Travelling

Make it a point to turn off all the lights before leaving your hotel room. Many of us don't really bother doing this, since we feel "We're paying for staying in the room, right? So lets run up the electricity bill really high!" No one will benefit from your leaving on the lights when you're not in the room, and the greatest harm will be borne by the planet! And your habits will eventually be imbibed by your kids. When your kids will see you doing your bit for the planet, they will automatically learn these good habits.

If you are planning to travel to a relatively untouched destination with your family, try to avoid carrying things that you will throw away a few days after reaching. Although the temptation to carry disposable items on holiday is always there, it is far better if you bring all your rubbish back with you, and dispose it off in your own home. Many travel destinations may not have adequate recycling facilities, and they soon start sinking under the load of excessive tourism. And if you must dispose off some rubbish, do so responsibly. Throw any rubbish you may have, in a bin. Don't litter, and be especially careful about disposing rubbish when you are on the beach, in the forest, or in some other natural habitat.

Tourism as an activity can cause a lot of harm to the environment, the culture and the eco-system of a place, so bear this in mind. Respect the sensibilities of the people that dwell in the villages you may be visiting.

Personal Habits

Your child’s friend’s birthday is coming-up and he or she has to send a greeting card to his or her friend. Instead of purchasing a paper card, simply teach your child to send an e-greeting, and follow up with a telephone call. Never forget the adage - save paper, save a tree. With the millions of people engaged worldwide in conservation activities, it seems a shame if we don't do our little bit to help the environment in whatever small way we can.

Avoid buying fruits and vegetables that are not in season, or that are not produced locally. If you make it a rule to purchase only locally made food items, it will save on immense transportation costs and fuel. In addition, local economy will see a boost.

Avoid the temptation of buying little plastic Ziplocs or plastic containers to store food in. Instead, store food in ceramic containers. Also, when preparing your child's tiffin, don't wrap his chapatti or sandwiches in tinfoil. If you must, use a thin muslin cloth instead.

Other Energy Saving Tips

Let us have a look at some simple things which you can practice as well teach your child to save a lot of energy and natural resources and eventually the planet.

  • Stop asking for plastic bags from fruit and vegetable vendors, always carry cloth or recyclable bags.
  • If yours and your spouse’s office are in the same area, try and use a common vehicle. You can also prefer carpooling. These habits can help to save a lot of fuel.
  • For short-distance travel always use public transport or walk it down if possible. Walking is good for health.
  • Recycle and reuse as much as you can.
  • Do not throw leftover food. You can pass on the left over food to those who are in need.
  • Take bath with the water collected in tumblers and avoid using showers to prevent water wastage.
  • Make sure that you unplug your phone chargers, once the battery is full.
  • Not only at home or office, but also at public places you must switch off the lights, fans etc; when no one is using them.

All the above mentioned things are not enough as we can do lot more to save our planet. However, following these basic things can bring about a revolution. You must not only take steps for conservation of our planet but also involve your children and family members in this regimen. Also, do not hesitate to guide people when you see anybody spoiling or wasting our nature or natural resources. Above all the most important thing is to help children imbibe these habits so that they have safe and secure future.

we should save our planet by growing more and more trees to balance the eco-system. today the demand for the wooden furniture in the market has gone up like a rocket. and if there is a demand man will definately do something to fullfil it and he start cutting the trees to earn the money and fullfil the demand. so don't for excess unwanted furniture. i request you people to please come together and grow more and more plants to save our planet.. thank you!!!
