Even though some bacterial infections can be as serious as life threatening, most of them can be prevented by taking few steps. If you practice some steps, you can prevent your child from infections.

Bacterial infections in children are common. Most of these infections require antibiotics for treatment. However, if you practice some good habits of cleanliness and hygiene in kids, you can prevent them in the first stage.

If your little one had been suffering with bacterial infection lately, you can help her get back on track by recognizing the symptoms of an infection, by knowing when to call the doctor and which of the treatment options are right for her.

How to Prevent Bacterial Infections in Kids

Here is how bacterial infections can be prevented in children by following some simple steps.

1. Teaching Children to Wash Hands Often

Teach your child to wash hands many times during day in addition to washing before and after meals, after using the toilet and after sneezing or coughing.

2. Using Certified Hand Sanitizer

You will have to teach your child the right way of washing hands so that her hands get free from dirt, germs and bacteria, if any. And if in case if it is not possible to wash hands, your child can use certified hand sanitizers.

3. Keeping Frequently Used Objects Clean

The objects which your kids touch often should be cleaned at regular intervals so that number of bacteria is reduced in the environment. The door knobs should be cleaned properly as it is touch by maximum number of people throughout the day.

4. Preventing Child from Going Near a Sick Person

Although it is not possible to avoid someone completely, try to keep your child away from the sick person as far as possible.

5. Practicing Hygiene while Cooking

Keep your hands clean when you cook food. Washing hands time and again in and out of kitchen is important and helps keep foods safe. Also, wash and cook your food thoroughly so that your child is prevented from getting infected by any harmful bacteria.

Tips for Preventing Throat Infection in Children

Here are some tips to help your child stay protected from throat infection.

• Wash your hands if you or your child has been in public.

• Dispose of used tissues immediately.

• Wash the toys if the other child playing with it was infected.

• Avoid smoking near your child.

• Do not share eating or drinking utensils with your child.

• Use humidifier in the home, during dry weather.

Tips for Preventing Ear Infection in Children

Ear infection is painful and may lead to other health problems also. Take some precautionary steps and prevent your child from suffering. In addition to practicing cleanliness and hygiene, you should also take care of ear hygiene. Make sure you dry your child’s ears after swimming or bathing by following appropriate measures.

Vaccinating Children

Let your child get the vaccinations on proper time and make sure you keep a record of every vaccine being given to your child.

In addition to above steps, it is very important to know when you should call a doctor. After all you can try to prevent your child from bacterial infection, but you cannot completely protect her. So, if there is a bacterial infection and your child’s discomfort is not getting reduced, you should immediately call your doctor. If your child has high fever or is vomiting a lot, get medical attention immediately.

Taking precaution is always good whether it is in case of kids or adults, but when there is a bacterial attack, you might need a doctor’s advice. So, be prepared for it and stay cautious and alert especially when you have a small child at home.
