Name: Hopeful
I am 37 years old (1970) and married for 11 years (1996). My husband is 39 years old (1968). After one year of marriage, I conceived but had a miscarriage after 3 months. Again I conceived after 16 months. I was given PROFASI injections (16 injections) two injections every week. This was done since my Gynecologist categorized it as \" Precious Pregnancy\" and asked me to be under complete bed rest. I was found to be having Gestation diabetes by 7th month of conception. I had a caesarian delivery and gave birth to a baby boy in 1999 who weighed 4.5 Kgs. He is 8 years now and is fine.
However since Jun-2004, I am trying to conceive for the second child. I had three miscarriages in a row, all the time cardiac activity of foetus stopping after 6-8 weeks and I was advised D&C. Before conceiving for the third time, I was advised to check for Antibodies in blood which revealed border line (11). After I became pregnant for the 3rd time, I was on Low dosage aspirin. But still I had a miscarriage.
After this last miscarriage (Jul-2006), my Gynaec told me that this could be happening due to \" Single Gene Disorder\" . Though we browsed the internet to understand \" Single Gene Disorder\" , it is too complex to understand.
Also my self and my husband were asked to go for KARYOTYPING to find out any abnormality in chromosomes. KARYOTYPING result came out NEGATIVE which means it is NORMAL.
Also we did a test to find out the presence of anti bodies and the results are as follows:
“Anti Cardiolipin Antibody – IgG†13.1 GPL units / ml (Ref range: Less than 10 – Negative, 10-15 Border line)
I am based at Chennai and had consulted some famous Gynecologists but no one could diagnose the problem accurately.
My queries are:
1. Are the anti bodies causing a problem by which miscarriage occurs and if so, what is the remedy?
2. Is there a way to overcome “Single Gene Disorder If at all a child is born successfully, will the child have any genetic problems?
3. Is it risky trying to conceive beyond the age of 35? I have heard there is a possibility of children having “Down Syndromeâ€. I would rather prefer not to have a child with such problems since any way I have one child of my own.
Please help me in this regard.
Thanks in anticipation of your help,
Hopeful.
