My 3 month old son is having frothy stools and has a bad rash. He cries a lot while passing stools or gas. He is breastfeed exclusively. Any suggestions or advice welcome.

hi mom

i will tell u some tips to soothe ur baby frm the pain of rashes....keep him free fr diaper or panty for few days untill the rashes heal..keep a thick cotton clean cloth under his bottom to avoid accidents.dunt let the stool parti8cles to setlle inside the butt...at the same time dunt rub n wash after each pooping...wash with plain warm water juz by spraying it on his bottom n wipe with clean cotton cloth n allow his bottom to dry completely...apply any rashes cream or lotion prescribed by ur nearest pharmacist ...b4 all thiz u must treat his loose stools....if he iz breastfed exclusively ur doctor may ask u to change ur diet....eat healthy diet n avoid junks for few days..feed him often to keep him hydrated.in india elders used to give sugar n salt solution to provide them lost salt n fluid....if u wish u can mix pinch of sugar n salt in 2 tsp of water n feed him twice a day....but consulting ur baby' s ped will b a gud idea.

Seems like stomach upset for the baby. You have not mentioned how many times he is passing the stools. Anyways. What you can best do for his stools is check with his ped. The rash is because of the stools and it hurts so babies cry while passing urine or gas. The stools are acidic and if it leaves on the area, it creates the rash. Clean it with water (not cloth as acid will remain) as soon as possible after he passes stools. Ask your ped about any ointment or poweder for the rash.
Lastly, the stomach upset may be due to something you atge as u say baby is exclusively breastfed. So watch what you eat and again, take ped' s opinion on what may have caused and how to try to prevent.

The baby is too small. If he is passing frequent tools it may not be a good idea to wash him again and again. Also, frequent cleaning with wet cloth or cotton may create cuts as skin is v delicate. The docs tell method of squeezing water on anus and cleaning it, in such cases. I can tell that method here, but I want to be careful hence asking u to check this too with your ped.

Keep the area clean and dry. Tap with soft cotton cloth to dry.

Take care.

At the same time the child is feeling some pain So try to understand and consult a doctor.... - sharmasanvi [View Message]
RE:bowel movement in 2 week old infant
Some babies go through phases when they either can't use the muscles to empty their bowels or they "forget how to". In that case, it's safest keep using the suppositories daily to make them do a dirty in 5 minutes.... - Su 03 [View Message]
RE:where can I get laxative?
You can get either glycerin or bisacodyl suppositories in any Indian pharmacy - I recommend saving money by not buying child-size ones, instead cutting adult supps in half to make a child-size dosage.
(I have a daughter with long-term bowel issues: she can't "do" without them!)... - Su 03 [View Message]
RE:constipation
When the baby is in discomfort from constipation (especially if she hasn't done some dirty for two days or more), the first thing you should give is a glycerin suppository.... - Su 03 [View Message]
RE:hi
Most doctors say banana doesn't help - the potassium in it makes constipation worse. Remember you can make your own prune puree in a blender. Grape, grapefruit and papaya are also laxative fruits. And remember you can safely use baby suppositories as often as you need to (they also help with "training" the baby to do a dirty at the same time every day)... - Su 03 [View Message]
RE:Baby Movements/Development
Consult a good doctor immediately as this should not be ignored as it will cause a big issue if you let it go now, please seek doctors advice on immediate basis.... - Aditi [View Message]
RE:Baby Movements/Development
Hi Karthik this is a serious issue and you should look into this matter very seriously as its concern with your own child and you cannot let things go, have a good consulting done by a good doctor.... - Amaira [View Message]
