Hi All,

I am also in the same boat!!! trying really hard to feed my 9 month old son. Last week I found that he is really getting board of eating the samethings again and again. Earlier I used to give him Idlies for BF, but then after a few days he completely refused to touch them .Then I started giving him ragi. Again in the begning he loved it and a week later completely refused it. Now I am giving him idilies, dosas and ragi of alternate days. He absolutely loves dosas. Some days it so happens that, i give him other food he refused, and finally i have to make him a dosa which he will eat without wasting a bit. Infact he will be so hungry that he just cant wait till i give him the next bite...
Same happend with rice also. I used to make daal rice on 1 day and khichdi on the next day and the day after, I would make vegetable soup!!!
So you can try giving them completely different food.

I have a 8 month old son. Feeding him is such a nightmare. If i put him on my lap, he just jumps out using his legs. So whenever I feed him, his dad has to dance and make faces and sing songs to get his attention. If I am alone, then i take him out and show him ppl and trees and crows and feed him. So in the process he has learnt a lot of things like where the fan is and TV and crows etc :):)He likes boiled apples mixed along with mashed banana a lot. I do force feed him at times cause left to his choice, he just wouldnt bother to eat at all, rather play all the time :):) So keep trying. When the baby becomes agitated, calm him down for some time and then try again. Good luck to all moms...

Hi Aks,

My baby is 9 mths and has become so fussy, I can' t even begin to tell you.

One thing I wanted to mention (and this is what my ped told me when I mentioned my worry to her last week)...make sure that they have their intake of milk properly (abt 24 oz per day)...about solids she said that maybe the baby likes finger foods more..

So what I have been doing is that I steam and season some peas and carrot pieces..then put it in front of her (in her high chair). I also toast wheat bread, put butter on it, tear it into small pieces and put it in front of her..today I even took the kabuli chana from chola, washed it to take away all the spices but retain some flavor and then gave it to her...she liked it! so hopefully she got some protein this way...

One more thing I have noticed is that if I try to feed her, then my baby will just close her mouth and will not open it (believe me I tried all toys etc). But when I put some food in front of her, then after a while she picks up some stuff and puts it in her mouth...if she likes it, she eats more...

I' m going to try paneer tomorrow...lets see how that goes...

My ped also told me not to force feed her since that might develop into an aversion for food. She said that let her play with the food..you need not give her all healthy stuff all the time..she needs to just get used to eating something...so even biscuits and crackers are fine...

hi aks
well just replied to ur earlier questions when i came across this. PLease do not worry. This is very very common. I can assure you that 99% moms here would vouch for it. I also struggle to feed my fussy boy. I also use toys to distract him. My advice to you is that DONOT use TV at all. Its a horrible habit that doesn' t go easily.
Rely on toys..its the safest bet...I hope you are using a feeding chair...
kids this small have no attention span. Be innovative, use toys to the maximum extent. U can also try giving him a spoon in his hand. take someone' s help if possible. ALways clap or applaude whenever he finishes his food.

Believe me i know how exactly stressful it is andd what sort of antics the mothers have to employ in order to get the baby to eat....take my case..i even use my swimming gogles to have his attention when i have to feed him :-))
donot give up ...one day you would surely find something that wuld click for u...until then keep trying
take care

i am also going through same phase, today i got her weighed and i am very depressed, my duaghter is 9 months and is just 7kg200gm, i try to give her all kinds of food according to her age and most of the time i just literally force the food down, i have no other choice, she is already underweight, i have tried all the tricks to distract her but to no use, so at the end i just force it down. sometimes really get upset.
