Hi,

I am planning to go for HSG test. Is it very painful? what are the preparations before the test? should i take pain killers before the procedure? How long is the procedure? should i take couple of days rest after the test? Please inform me.

Thanks,
rama.

Hi - I found a HSG a bit painful - bit more than regular cramping for me - but its ok just kept telling myself i need to know where i stand with regards to patency of my tubes - I took pain killers post HSG - you are not suppose to have continous bleeding after 24 hrs after HSG and no fever also if you do you should see the doc immediately. Make sure you ask them if all of the dye has come out after the procedure for me little bit was left thats i took pain killers. Its nothing to worry abt though it eventually comes out of the body i think ...

Hi, Rama
I did that test and believe me it was not painful, It' s just feels like a little cramping as one may have at the time of periods for few seconds....That' s it. I did not take any pain medications before the test the procedure was approx 10-15 mins.I returned to my normal activities right after coming home but u may take rest for few hours and generally there are no specific preparations prior to test.
