------reply of hetal, i had saved for my purpose.
calories needed for 1 year old sorry don have the message id or post no but here is the reply :
\" an approx,,,40 calories per day per inch of height thats somewhere in range of 1000 to 1300 calories/day is mostly needed for a healthy toddler from 1-2 year.
however, many babies have not reached these guidelines,,and still they have been perfectly healthy babies and they have achieved all their milestones on time.....

so it depends alot on his own apetite and his own capacity to convert the food he eats,,,in actual calories.
it would be a better idea if you give me your current menu and i will add or deduct watever is needed ! also it would be great if you mention your child preferences, textures and whether or not ne allegies shown to ne foods.
mostly an average healthy baby is expected to eat 1/4th of one adult serving of all foods.which means if you are taking 1 roti at a time, your baby is expected to eat 1/4th of it on an average.same goes with curries, dal or rice,,or whatever your regular diet is.
its also expected tht baby has aleast 2 healthy snacks(late afternoon and after dinner dessert), and 3 mini meals(breakfast, lunch, dinner) in one day..
all this depends on baby apetite and the type of food he eats.

7?8 months Breast milk: 3?5 feedings, or on demand OR Iron-fortified formula: 3?5 feedings of 6?8 ounces each.
Infant cereal: 4?6 tablespoons
Infant juice: 2?4 ounces (from cup only)
Fruit: 1?2 tablespoons
Vegetables: 5?7 tablespoons
Meats: 1?2 tablespoons
Finger food: One small serving (toast, crackers, teething biscuits, plain dry cereal)
Start with single grain cereals: rice first, then oats and barley.
Wait until your baby is six months old to try other kinds of cereal.
Start by making the cereal thin, mix one tablespoon of dry cereal with 2?3 tablespoons of breast milk or iron-fortified formula.
As baby gets older, make it thicker, mix one tablespoon dry cereal with 2?3 tablespoons of breast milk or iron-fortified formula.

Meat Use plain, strained meats when starting. If meat is too thick, thin with breast milk, iron-fortified formula or meat juices.
Avoid meat and vegetable combinations or high protein meat dinners. atleast until 9months.
You can use cooked egg yolk, once your baby has completed 8months, but don' t give egg whites until your baby is one year old.

Fruits and vegetables Start with pureed fruits and vegetables..slowly graduate them to finger foods.
Start with single, plain choices without tapioca added.
Don' t serve fruit \" desserts.\" from any baby good company.

Juice Offer juice from the cup, not the bottle.
Start with infant juice. Mix once ounce of water with one ounce of juice(after 8months). Gradually cut back the water until giving straight juice.,,thats at 1 year.
Start with single flavored juices. Wait until your baby is older to give mixed juices.
Use only 100% juice ( for babies below 1 year,mix fruit pulp:water = 1:4,or juice:water=1:4 or less for babies below 8months.,
never use flavored fruit drink such as Kool-aid, punch, or soda (pop).
To protect teeth and begin weaning, always offer juice from a cup.
To prevent choking, always hold your baby when feeding from a bottle.

Good Luck

a healthy 1 year old should be able to have :

1. milk feed of 5-7oz,time he gets up !
2. breakfast - 1/4cup of iron fortified cereal or raagi kanji/soup..you can start on with nuts, dpnding on your child tolerance levels n how he feels in stomach/heaviness orr so,,and it should not disturb his other feeds.
3. brunch - 1/4cup or less/approx of fruits,,often start with fingr foods/so offer chopped...
4. lunch - 1/4-1/2cupof serving of dal, rice, roti and curry/vegies or meat in total,,when mixed altogether,,say the khichadi that has mashed roti in it or khichadi that has cracked wheat, dal, rice, vegies or meat pieces in it,,should be around 3/4th -1cup,,on an approx...offer with curd or buttermilk or with tomato base,,avoid offerng plain !
5. juice feed or milk feed in late noon.dpnding on how his schedule is fixed !
6. juice feed if baby seems to be feeling heavy with milk feed and doesnt take dinner,,,milk feed, if dinner is atleast 2-3hours away ! for good apetite,,offer tomato juices or offer ne juice tht has vit c !
make sure the diffrnce of milk feed and juice feed is around 2-3hours, and that of juice feed and dinner is around 2-3hours,,if a particular meal seems to be heavy for your child apetite,,reduce the quantity to balance it,,but make sure to include all the mini meals as far as you can,,,to practice healthy eating habits !
7. dinner !
8. before sleep, 5-7oz of cows milk !!!
