I' ve been wanting to ask for help for a fourteen month old since long. my child has been teething since long and that has been a problem in terms of his eating. I have to admit I forcefully, tactfully make him eat - that too only pureed food as if there are lumps he would choke as I forcefeed. I have tried offering finger foods - like idly, cut steamed pieces of veggies. But he will only take 2-3 pieces and rest throw them down. Eventually I get so frustrated that I have to forcefeed. His weight is also in 20th percentile. I want advice on this. Is someone out there who has gone through this as I against my wishes have to forcefeed but I am not sure how long this will last and I really want him to start eating out of the place on his own. Leaving him hungry - I can' t stand that. Any tips would be helpful !! Please help !!

Hi There,

I am a mom of 16 month old daughter. SHez also underweight... I also experienced loss of appetite in her while she was teeething and especially children do experience this in the age of 14-18 months since they are gradually getting molars and premolars... About giving soft mashed food, i think thats ok till the time your child has its TOOTH. ONce your child has its tooth you can start gradually with solid food for chewing... Forcefeeding- I should saythat i also do the same thing to my daughter... Her first answer when I ask her for food is \" NO\" ... So its pointless waiting for her to get hungry and then feed her. Children become so busy in their activities that they forget hunger....

I hope this helps... You can give your child banana which will be good for increasing weight.

Hi ! Thnx for the reassurance. I was just going crazy thinking how I am going to fix this problem. It´ s good to know I am not the only one forcefeeding. I know it´ s not right but they are too young to know what´ s right - leave alone that - they don´ t even know when they are hungry. so thanks for the time to post your tips. good luck !
