Dear all,

My son is 5.5 mths old.
I have read in some of Hetal' s posts that the child should be given diluted fruit juices ta this age.

I wanted to know what fruit juices to give and how to make them at home.
I am assuming juices are different than fruit sauces.
Pls advise.

Thanks all!

i had followed what hetal had suggested about homemade juices.i don' t have the post but i think you will find it in these links.
when i visited india, i made diluted juices with fruit sauces as suggested by hetal in one of her post but i don' t have the link for dat.it was a very long time ago.

but this is what i used to do according to what she suggested.
1. wash the fruit properly by rubbing it gently through running water.
chop the fruit with skin in the pressure cooker & overcook it for 5-6whistles.you can also boil them in water.use the same water of pressure cooker for adding to sauces.
overripe fruit like peaches, pears, don' t require cooking. but itz better to use the normal ripe fruit and cook them.mango, banana also don' t need cooking.offer ripe and soft ones dat doesn' t have hard fiber in it.if you see any thick fiber in it, mash it with fork in the strainer to get the fine puree.
2. mash the cooked fruit or puree it and pour it through the thin mesh.it will be very thick so you will have to move the thick sauce with spoon to let it pass through the mesh.
i used to use the tea strainer for dat. whatever fine sauce comes, offer dat to baby for any fruit.throw away thick thick leftover thread like fibers of the fruit in tea strainer.
dis sauce you can offer as fruit sauce.
for juice, add water to dis sauce and offer.
you can also get any good brand of juice from store dat is organic and mix with water and offer it.

Hetal had suggested me 1:2 ratio of sauce & water but dat was when i din' t tell her dat my son was having severe reflux. when i told her dat, she suggested me to try 1sauce and 3parts of water. wid dis ratio my son was able to drink juices.
once my son was 1 year, i gave him 100% fresh juices from ripe fruit(no cooking).
i was giving him dis diluted 1:2water coz my son used to vomit 100% fresh ripe fruit juice.
his reflux problem is gone with homeopathic treatment so now i offer him 100% gerber juice or when i have time i make fresh ripe fruit juice in juicer, itz 100% juice & he enjoys it without throwing up.
i might have missed some points from her actual post but if you need any other clarifications you can ask hetal. i dun' t remember i used to do dis long time ago when i had visited india for 3-4months and gerber sauces were not available at my inlaws place.
after i came back to US, i used to use gerber sauces and add water to it.
i had asked reg gerber juices to my paed when i was back in US, but he said dat gerber juices are 100% juice and thy have high sugar in it so it shuld be given after 1 year only.
i dunt know whether he told me dis bcz my son is having reflux or bcz itz given to all babies. but even all of d hetal posts and gerber website says that 100% juice is for toddlers only.
why dun' t you clear it with your pead reg dat.

hope dis is helpful to you.
