Bowel and Bladder Movements:Hetal - Cloth diapers/cottonbabies

Dear Hetal,

I went thru ur advice given for Roopa Patil on 2007-01-10 titled Cloth diaper query for Hetal.

From ur reply,i found cottonbabies dot com website was very useful.

Regarding my boy,who is 6 months, wakes up in the night due to wet diapers and wetting his entire clothing.

I have once asked this question titled \";Peculiar Sleeping Problem- Hetal & All\"; on 07-01-05 in the sleeping board.

U gave ur valuable suggestion as to use nappyliners or try changing diaper size.Which i tried, both didnt solve the problem.

So how about, the cloth diapers in the cottonbabies dot com,can u plz suggest ur opinon.

1) Does it keeps the baby dry throughout the night?

2)cloth diapers maintainance??washing,how often??hygenic??

3)Cloth diaper pocket inserts alone can be replaced and washed or the entire diaper should b washed often??

4)there r various brands,what brand would u suggest??

5)For the first time use,how many diaperrs and what all should i buy(inserts,liners,covers..)??

help needed hetal.

regards,
smrithi

well, for cloth diapers you use,, dpending on baby wetness and all, most babies do get up at night..even mine used to get up and sleep back when i started her on cloth diapers for potty training...neetu is quite rigght,i will like to agree to what she says,,if sleeplessness is bothering you,,using a heavy quality disposable diaper might work !
1. i cant ensure you, about cloth diapers keeping baby dry,,because it depends on not only age, but also thr bladder freqncy and as to how far that cloth can hold the wetness...and ofcourse, cloth diaper capacity.
if you are using a nappy, buying a good quality nappy cover might even work for you...
same applied to my baby..whenver her liquids intakes were less, her bladder freqs were like normal or below normal, she was sleepng at peace, other times she used to wakeup ! night was not the time i want to try for ne kind of potty training so for my sake and esp those days when i had no strength to get up at night,,thats exactly where the disposables are a blessing...and atleast thats the last thing i would do when i dont want to be disturbed !
otherthn that,,many a times, inserts often helps in providing maximum absorbency.esp the hemp babies (on cottonbabies dot com),have quick drying time and its like 8-9times of absorbency of cotn..you can use it both ways like a diaper liner inside the a regular diaper or as an insert inside the pocket diaper...
2. washing and all, is a big work, i strongly recomnd you that hygne is a big thing that you will worry about, but it more depends on where you are and how much help you have and accrdly you can plan. i was alone in US and i did it my way ! all my expernce i have it written somewhere,,lemee see if i can find it,,dont want to type all that again....i will post it in the end of the post.
3. i prefer to wash them once used only because its in contact with inner parts of baby and its better to be safe thn sorry, even though many sites dont recmnd it washng it alone.
4. watever brand you decide for, make sure it fits your budget. i would say buy the one that is of better quality..because cotton shrinks and you dont want to end up having a cloth diaper whose size decreases as the baby grows,,if you look for the ne kind of cloth diaper,,prefer to buy 1-2size bigger or those that fit babies of all sizes..the best to use.i wouldnt be bias to the brands i used mostly because the succss ratio of one brand dpends on how its used and baby acceptnce to it and also on her bladder freqncy,,,so know your baby skin first, i strongly recmnd you to read the forums at diaperpin dot com and cotton babies dot com and you will know which one is good buy for your baby ! you dont want to endup buying something that i suggestd and might not feel comfortable to your baby ! all babies sizes, thigh size and diaper sizes are differnt and so are the comfort levels,,so decide accrdngly.
5. its been a while i shopped for them, bt my first buy was gerber, for my baby it didnt work at all, it used to leak...the second buy was some brand from target,,that didnt work either,,finally with cotton babies, i saw the good brands and i bought the ones acc to what i felt will comfort my baby..out of that, yes out of all the buys that i made,,there were couple of em that i didnt feel gave me worth of price i paid...so how many and all you decide,,i would recmnd you to buy one of them and see if it comforts your baby,,if it does, place the bigger order acc to your baby bladder frequency and yes depending on how frequntly you will get time to wash them ! that matters down the line !
you can altrntly, buy the same brands from local stores, sometimes these are available in stores like target, meyer or such other stores. a friend of mine was able to get from target, while i had to buy online,,it dpends on the stck and also on the place as well...
for whatver diapers you buy, make sure to keep the accessors associatd with it, that fits all sizes,,so that you dont end up messng with the sizes even after wash. wahtvr is your buy, make sure to maintain them as directed on the site or in the brochure that you will get in your order,,ask for one if you want...
also look for coupan codes, ne deals or coupans if you can get them on google,,or ne clearance is going on thr site,,sometimes it saves alot of $$$$....
now about my personal exp with all my buys,,here is the link about the ones i used,,,see if you get some idea out of it,,i couldnt get the link but i had my message saved because its been a while i used them and i dont rem where i posted it ! luckily i have a habit of writng in word document and thn postng it on site....
here goes the matter :::::::::::
cotton babies : i bought from the site
i personally liked and am using the all in one range of diapers. so i bought couple of re-us'all in one cloth diaper, and then other i liked were bumgenius one size cloth diaper. for good night sleep, i use Imse Vimse flannel diaper insert (liner). its a famous brand, check on search engine for great online deals. most of the times, there are good clearance available on them.
sometimes when i was tired, i used the flushable diaper liners so that when we are tired, we poor parents will not have to 'dunk' diapers. these all things are available in this or many other websites, check on search engine for a better comparision of price.
its been a while i shopped them so i dunt rem the price, but i was also new to buying these things,so i bought from this site without much exploring of these,,,it was later i found that other sites had a better price compared to wat i paid. so check on that.
i also bought couple rumpsters all in one from same website mentioned above, they are great when i dont want to change diaper frequently. mostly she wears them in mall or shopping days.holds wetness really good.

then for travelling i got a couple stacinator so simple diaper covers,as nirja has chunky thighs..ordinary ones is too tight for her.so you go by whatever fits in your baby comfort,or else you will have sharp lining of wraps on your lil ones legs..m sure you dont want that.
check on the cotton babies in diaper cover section.also bummies super whisper wrap is working good than i expected.
i got a variety of them so i dont get fooled by one particular design.see what fits in your budget.

for whatever diaper or accessory you take, make sure you take a couple in larger size or a size bigger than your baby weight, esp if you have a chubby baby with chunky thighs.

and remember cotton shrinks..go for the after wash sizes mentioned in the product description..

also peep into their best seeling products. i found the above working great for me, but you might want something else as your preference...there is a very nice description on this website, so go by it and try it. first get a couple them, if confident buy the others. sometimes these brands are also available in target. i saw covers at my last visit. but i found online price was cheaper.
so go by whatever you feel fits in your budget & convinience.also check for your baby comfort. buy a couple of them, see how he feelsin it, then go for the other buys. search for some coupan codes on google, you will get excellent offers like free shipping or 15% off on your purchase etc.even though coupan validity is over, sometimes its a jackpot,it works :))..so good luck.

also check this, for big packs/economic price packs, once you are comfy with watever you are using.good price.

so that was my buy.since am at home most of times, now,i bought few only, some 16 of them only..i preferred to wash them regularly rather than piling them up.keep a margin of 4-5 diapers on the stack and wash the rest.so go by your convinience & buddget.
good luck

hai, in the reply to your post, there was one tip on trying the disposable diapers at night. which i tried and it worked for me.
did you try that? i stopped making my baby wear cloth diapers or nappies because he used to wakeup at night. it helped him sleep better.
i have read that potty training with cloth diapers is better to try after 1 year. just a thought that 6months is too early for you to try potty training.
6months old baby need to sleep nicely at night so i started making him wear disposable diapers (pampers baby dry are te best) and he sleeps nicely.
when i go out, i make my baby wear liners. they are plastic like and very soft and so they don't leak. you can try that.i don't know the brand because my cousin send the pack from some online site. i tried reading the tag but itz washed off.
dats all from me.

RE:bowel movement in 2 week old infant
Some babies go through phases when they either can't use the muscles to empty their bowels or they "forget how to". In that case, it's safest keep using the suppositories daily to make them do a dirty in 5 minutes.... - Su 03 [View Message]
RE:where can I get laxative?
You can get either glycerin or bisacodyl suppositories in any Indian pharmacy - I recommend saving money by not buying child-size ones, instead cutting adult supps in half to make a child-size dosage.
(I have a daughter with long-term bowel issues: she can't "do" without them!)... - Su 03 [View Message]
RE:constipation
When the baby is in discomfort from constipation (especially if she hasn't done some dirty for two days or more), the first thing you should give is a glycerin suppository.... - Su 03 [View Message]
RE:hi
Most doctors say banana doesn't help - the potassium in it makes constipation worse. Remember you can make your own prune puree in a blender. Grape, grapefruit and papaya are also laxative fruits. And remember you can safely use baby suppositories as often as you need to (they also help with "training" the baby to do a dirty at the same time every day)... - Su 03 [View Message]
RE:Baby Movements/Development
Consult a good doctor immediately as this should not be ignored as it will cause a big issue if you let it go now, please seek doctors advice on immediate basis.... - Aditi [View Message]
