Trying since long:Info needed for IVF

Hello Friends,

I am a silent reader of this forum.I need some information for doing IVF in US.I am looking for good financial plan for IVF as my current insurance does not cover for fertility treatments.we are planning to go for Shared Risk refund plan which costs abt $21,500 with (3 fresh and 3 frozen cycles ) a 70% refund if patient is not taking baby home of all 6 cycles. However, Medications,pre-IVF office visits and early pregnancy u/s monitoring are not covered in this, which may come around $4,000 per cycle(I am not sure).

I am very concerned abt How risk it is and how the treatment is going to be...Anyone has taken / planning to take this financial plan ? If you come across any other better plans please share that . And i want to know how IVF is being done....And how much time needed between firstcycle and second cycle if first cycle is failure....

Please share the information so that it would be very hepful to choose a better financial plan so that treatment cost wouldnot create any stress.

Thanks
JoJo

JoJo,
don't know about plan but sounds expensive to me.

IVF however is done as follows, they may put you on superovulatory drugs and isolate eggs from you. At the same time they will also have your spouses semen for collecting quality sperms. These two main ingredients will be used to fertilize in laboratory and fertilized eggs some of which will be injected into your uterus with hope of implantation. Some of the fertilized eggs can be kept frozen and used for reinjection if implantation did not take place.

Although sounds lot of in vitro (in the laboratory) work is done final deal is implantation and must happen in your uterus, where a balance state of mind will help to maintain hormonal balance.

Like any other medical procedure it's miraculous to some extent but not 100% guarantee of success.

There is a risk of multiple pregnancies also, but you will work on if that's what happens, they could resolve in early stages of pregnancy.

Unless you are well off economically doing this procedure in USA can be way expensive. There are hosptials in India where procedure can be done and will be much inexpensive, you will chose what and where to do.

Thanks archie...
I too feel it's way too expensive here. But somewhere in other forums i read IVF costs in India almost the same as here. They include flight exp for husb&wife,4 weeks loss of pay vacation for hubby, treatment, travel etc.

Also for successful implantation as you said one must have good state of mind.In my case i am afraid whether i get good moral support from in-laws as we are not in good terms as of now.
Also my hubby couldnt be present more than 3 weeks.

My doc diagnosed my case as PCOS and i have already taken an IUI cycle here which didnt work. Now my doc suggests me to go for injectible IUI wich is again cost $4000+medication here and the other option is IVF.

Thanks archie for your time in detailed mail.

Hi Everyone,

We have been married for the last 12 years. We are trying for a baby but unfortunately every time it's disappointing. I had 3 abortion, 2 Ectopic pregnancy, 1 IUI failure and 2 IVF failures. I had septum in the uterus and got removed. Since I had a history of ectopic pregnancies, both my fallopian tubes are tied. Due to the poor ovarian reserve ... - Malini [View Message]
