Behavioural Problems:Not able to understand behaviour and How to handle
2010-06-21
Name: Shibu

my 3 year old son has this habit of hitting people who are close to him and he kind of enjoys doing the same...have tried to be patient and tell him that its not right, but still no respite, eventually i loose patience and hit him. Kindly advise on how to handle this problem? I hate beating him

Hitting your kid in return will not change him in any way. My nephew is studying 3rd standard in Orchids International School and he behaved in the similar manner. We had similar complaints from his teachers. We' ve been trying to channel his anger into karate. Teaching him some form of martial arts helps hm let out his relish for violence and at the same time, he gets to learn self defence and discipline. Alos, get someone he listens to, talk to him strictly about his behaviour.

hitting is not a solution. It always talking and making him understand, i know its not easy, its a hammer technique, need on explaining him it will hit his mind sometime. have patience and talk to him and go in for music therapy that will make him calm.

most of the time u hit him too and this is the particular reason for his hitting others.try not to raise hands as far as possible.i knw sometimes we jus loose our patience or feel embarassed but thats not the remedy.things can b explained to children nicely once twice or many times it just needs ur patience.try explaining either early mornings or once the child is ready to sleep bcoz then the brain is more calmer and he will understand after sometime.raising hands on children makes them more stubborn so never do that have patience an explanation can also work.all the best.
