Name: worried mom

Hi Hetal & friends,

My son is 8.5 months old. His birth weight was 2.9kgs. His current weight is 8.9Kgs. His weight gain was good sofar. He eats almost all vegetables and 7-8 variety fruits. Oflate he was not gaining much of weight. In last 2.5 months he gained around 200gms of weight. He is teething now. How much of weight does he need to gain per month.

Please advice.
thanks

expect loss of apetite n lack of interest in food during :
1. teethng,
2. ne illness about to strike, often cold, viral or fever,,mostly a week or 3-4days before it strikes,,kids start to show these signs.
3. indigestion or ne heavy foods that are taken during the whole day,,might make thm less intrst in foods for next 48hours.n might lead to mild constipatn, or loose motions or gas/bloaty feel in stomach
4.last but not the least,,,after 9-10months, thr body starts to prepare for toddler life,,so his body starts to tone up the muscles n work on his grips, balance,,instead of fat, or wght,,,so its quite normal !

punch line after 8months, expect yourr child wght to remain same or increase at half the pace of the prev accelratd grwth rate or even lower,,,BUT NO WAY SHOULD DECREASE OR REMAIN CONSTANT FOR MONTHS TOGETHER...
other reasons of not gaining good wght might be that he might just not be gettng enough food thru out the day or enough servings,,,which might have been quite a normal reason !! if so,,make sure your child eats atleast 3-4mini meals along with servings of formula/bm and juice...n if wght gain reduces further from 200grams to 100grams in shorter period(2.5mnths is ok, not a short period,,short period, is say 1 week or 2weeks),,dr attn is required !
hope this suffcs !
