Wish u and ur family a very happy new year. Hope the new year has been good for you so far.
Hetal, I had been to india and have just come back. While in India my daughter fell badly ill and as a result of that has lost weight. I fed her cows milk in kerala and she started having loose motions and then vomitting. I immediately stopped the milk. for 3 days she didnot anything, she survived nly on my BM. she would vomit all the medicines that we tried giving her. Finally we had to tk her to the hospital and she was kept under observation for 3 hrs. They say she had GI Infection. She is doing ok now, has got her appetite back.
She was 2.7 kgs at birth and now at 16 months she is 9.360 kgs. Pls help me. What can i feed her to regain some lost weight (she was never a plump baby). In a matter of 2-3 days i think she has lost 1 kilo. Pls help Hetal.
Looking forward for ur reply. Thank you. God bless u.

Hetal replied. preeti,,since you are syng that she was able to regain her apetite,,its good,,m not worried,,but about GI infection,,,how about that,,has she recoverd from it...how many days in total she had it,,and lemee know the details,,the only reasn why m askng,,is want to judge the severity of GI infectn...also, wnt to know the medicines n dosage///names if you can recall,,it will tell me most of the stats about the svert....otherwise,,,other thn that,,her wght at 16months,,is good..not a prob,,,make sure she doesnt reduce it further...
now that she is 16months,,she is right candidate for molars, premolars or canines,,,and expect severe loss of apetite so i strongly recmnd you to feed her good enough so that even if she reduces to some level,,you are not worried about her wght,,you know wat m trying to say !
in all her foods, make sure she takes a complete diet(must include, rice, dal, vegie, meat, wheat, and a servng of cheese if at all its your regular diet or offer cheese/fat a sep servng)...
make sure to continue the schedules and proper diet, intakes and dont alter to less when it comes to diet,,not before she gets all her teeth ! these days,,i am cmng across many people complainng about total loss of apetite during molars, premolars and canines so i couldnt resist tell you in advance...
and your baby has already had GI infection so she will be sensitive to other things if at all loss of apetite occurs,,because an empty stomach is like empty vessels,,,makes alot of noise, and not at goodwill !!!
so expect that,,
make sure to offer all thats mentnd below,it wil give you idea about all the additions and deductns you might want to make :

all wght gain tips at 16months :
http://www.indiaparenting.com/boards/showmessage.cgi?messageid=5857&table_name=dis_feeding
good luck, no worries,,
with prev Gi infectn,,make sure to feed her light proteins/soy protein, foods like moong dal, moong,,and avoid meats with skin,,avoid too much of dairy,,if you are offerng cheese in one servng,,offer less curd or milk,,likewise balance it.avoid much of spice foods esp in dinners..avoid chilly pwder or pepper for next 2months.avoid sugar as much as you can,,offer her flax seeds bread or flax seed bran in her diet(oftn availble in US, in green stores.health stores,,,),,offer more of brown rice, oats, squash and avacados !
avoid white breads, crackers or sweet delicacies for her,,avoid tomato with seeds(without seeds, okay to give at moderate),,,and brinjal(or remove seeds and offer with lots of vegetables),,,offer more of mini meals,,thn 3-4 meals....
for you, the key is HIGH fibr, low/limted or easy proteins, high nutrient densed foods like sprouts(offer whole moong sprouted, channa mixed with lots of vegies,,dont offer alone,,offer with spinach gravy)...all ths will avoid ne constipatn or irritatng bowels probs in future forever...
all this to follow for next 2months strictly,,aftr that you can reintroduce her with regular diet with spices, and all foods...but it will all dpends on severity of GI infection and its damage caused,,if ne.......
since she had GI once,,make sure to take water bottle along with you or offer purified water..and take care of such hygn probs..
all this should help,,

aftr readng the details,,it doesnt seem to look serious or it might have damage her fnctions..,,in 3-4days,she got it and she recovered,,so thats good recovery..
i dont think it might have cause ne damage,,as it was taken care of right away..and that infectn could be because of freq travellng, cold,,and medicatns..sometimes,,bowel get irritated with so many things not favrble at same time to babies below 3years...
yes, encourage offerng lumpier foods,,just make sure they are nicely cooked.
and if you are offerng pepper,,she is not showng ne reflux,,its okay to continue offerng (i just hope the qty is namesake),,,but,,i strongly recmnd you to avoid it in evening times for 1month,,thn you can give that after a month,,
also, make sure her bowels are regular and ne probs related to stomach, vomtttng, loose motions, or pain involved,,without ne delay contact your dr with all medical history...and avoid other spices as i talked about atleast for 1month....
good no worries,,take care !
have fun...

Hi Hetal,
Thank you for ur reply. well my daughter had her first loose motions on 30th Dec. She passed loose motions twice that day with foul smell. Then in the evening she also vomitted some foo dthat i had fed her in the day. Then on 31st morning she had fever so i gave her tylenol. She was not very hungry that day, but wanted to eat some rice when i was eating but she vomitted that too later. In the night she ate rice which she vomitted in her sleep. She would only drink BM. On 1st we took her to a doc who asked us to give her Domstop to stop vomitting and another medicine ( i am unable to read the prescription). he said if she vomits this too then we would have to tk her to the hospital and give her an injection Reglan 0.6cc, which we did. but the next day she vomitted everything again. so on 2nd we tk her to a big hospital and there after being in observation for 3 hrs she was given Secef. She took that medicine and has been feeling good after that. dosage was 1 tsp for 1 wk once a day. i have finished the dose now. This is the best i can do with giving u the facts abt her GI infection. FYI before leaving for kerala i was in bombay for a few days and ther she had cold for which she was given antibiotic, nasal drops, ear drops and benadryl. the antibiotic dose was still going on when i went to kerala.
the only good thing to happen out of this illness was that now she eats everything. she would not touch banana before now eats it too. If u remember i used to write ti u that she does not eats lumpier food, now since 3 days she is eating that too. She wants to eats whatever anyone is eating. Should i encourage that? should i stop pepper in her food completely? Pls help.
Your due date is coming closer, i am sure u r exicted. Wish u all the best and god bless u. Thank you once again.
Preeti.
