Hi Hetal.
I am new member if the board and have managed to read some of your responses. They are indeed very helpful. Thank you so much for this guidance you extend to new moms like myself.
I hade a query regarding my son's bowel movements.
Age: 2 mths 3 wks
Bt. Wt: 2.58 kg
curr. wt: 5 kg.
Add info: Born thru normal delivery at 37 weeks
He is exclusively breastfed.
By the start of 2nd mth he was having only one bowel movement per day when he used to pass mustard-yello loose motion in good quantity. But since past 10 days or so his frequency of motions has again increased. He now passes ard 5 motions per day. I wanted to know if this is normal for him at his age.
(I have read at some places suggesting that by 2 mths most babies pass motion only once or one in 2 days).
Also, few times they are greenish in colour and also sometimes more liquidy.
Please respond.
Thanks a lot!

5motions per day,is more to me...
wght is okay.
here are some pointers :
1. his wght has not reduced,,so he is ok,no worries
2. his wght is increasing,,no worries,,
3. he seems to be quite active,,no worries.
4. he does not show ne discomfort passng these many bowels,,no worries.
5. the smell of bowels in not irritating or more than what you call as stinking ! no worries.
6. if he DOES NOT look tired after passng bowels, he is doing ok,,no worries.
7. if he passes gas which is unbearble smell,,he needs your dr attn at once.
8. keep n eye on no of wet diapers,,if less thn 6 in one day/daytime,,thn talk to your dr,,and offer your child 1oz of water in between feeds.
9. reduce the green leafy vegetables for 2-3days and see if that is not the cause of green colour. might be the psblty.
10. Green colour stools in exclusive bf babies is a warning sign that baby needs to see dr.and if the baby stools are nearly green or greenish and he has stopped gaining weight even though with enough feeds from your side,,it means he is getting too much of your foremilk and not the hindmilk...
which means that he is not gettng enough nutrition or leme be specific to say fat from your milk !!! try intrducng healthy fats in your diet and enough dairy, see if it helps..the best instant thing to do is,, talk to your dr,,if ne supplemnts are to be required for you or your baby ! or may be your baby needs formula...
11.consistent green stools is often the sign that your baby is sensitive to some foods that you are taking,or even it could be some medications that you are taking like iron supplements, antibiotics or ne multivitamins..chck on that, by stopng the prenatal vitamins for 48hours and check him for 48hours....
12.other than that, green stools(often more towards darkgreen) that are very sticky,or greasy,,,or constipation stools which gives pain are not a good sign,,take him to dr.,,,this is eliminated in your case,as the stools are liquidy,,its unlikely that he is havng constipatn as of now,,but could be a pssble prelimnry sign of constipatn coming on your way,,refresh yourself with lots of water before bf, eat healthy diet with lots of soups, juices and see if helps.
so thats all i have upto my reach,,,see if helps you catch something ! when it comes to babies below 6months,never take a chance on trying home remedies,,if they dont work,,you are just making your child suffer,,avoid doing that before 6months !

Hi Hetal!
Thanks a ton for such a detailed response to my query.
Since my son does not show any signs of 1 to 8 points, I am relieved to know that there is nothing to worry.
As for the green motions which he passes sometimes, I need to try your suggestions mentioned in your reply. Though now I suspct it is more on account of green leafy vegetables which I consume since green color is not regular.
Thank you again
Rashmi

RE:Baby cries while passing urine - Hetal pls advice
At the same time the child is feeling some pain So try to understand and consult a doctor.... - sharmasanvi [View Message]
RE:bowel movement in 2 week old infant
Some babies go through phases when they either can't use the muscles to empty their bowels or they "forget how to". In that case, it's safest keep using the suppositories daily to make them do a dirty in 5 minutes.... - Su 03 [View Message]
RE:where can I get laxative?
You can get either glycerin or bisacodyl suppositories in any Indian pharmacy - I recommend saving money by not buying child-size ones, instead cutting adult supps in half to make a child-size dosage.
(I have a daughter with long-term bowel issues: she can't "do" without them!)... - Su 03 [View Message]
RE:constipation
When the baby is in discomfort from constipation (especially if she hasn't done some dirty for two days or more), the first thing you should give is a glycerin suppository.... - Su 03 [View Message]
RE:hi
Most doctors say banana doesn't help - the potassium in it makes constipation worse. Remember you can make your own prune puree in a blender. Grape, grapefruit and papaya are also laxative fruits. And remember you can safely use baby suppositories as often as you need to (they also help with "training" the baby to do a dirty at the same time every day)... - Su 03 [View Message]
RE:Baby Movements/Development
Consult a good doctor immediately as this should not be ignored as it will cause a big issue if you let it go now, please seek doctors advice on immediate basis.... - Aditi [View Message]
RE:Baby Movements/Development
Hi Karthik this is a serious issue and you should look into this matter very seriously as its concern with your own child and you cannot let things go, have a good consulting done by a good doctor.... - Amaira [View Message]
