Hetal replied. hi, there,,,
1. does she eat family foods ? if not, try makng her sit for meals alongwith the whole family ! see if it works for you.
2. let her play until she is hungry,,and thn she will eat..because its unlikely that hungry child does not eat the food thats lyng on floor or she is playing with ! my baby does it many a times,,when put on plate, she used to put the plate upside down,,play with the food on the dining table,,and thn finally after a while,,it seems that she is tired or watver,,she wants to eat that food lyin on table itself !! now my dd is 16months old...thats how she eats when she is not much hungry but have to eat because after a while she gets hungry..its funny though...thats my persnal exp though,,m not sure how it will help you.
3. if she is fond of some particular toy or book or tv show,,make her watch that and let eat,,kids have favs after 1 year and it makes easy sometimes for us to deal with them,,when thr fav things are put forward.
4. give her pieces of vegies and fruits,,and let her play with that,,and if you think she is not eating at all,,start feeding in between the food that she doesnt like to eat or doesnt eat at all !!!
whenever she wants to eat by her own,,let her do that in her way,,respect that,,ask her to pick the food this and that way,,and make her food picking interestng activity...ask her place it in mouth,,do it before her and be expressive enough that shows that the food you had by that style is yum yum !!
she is 14mnths old,,,if you will co operate her, she will learn to eat..
some other tips :
1. make sure, first that her day has a routine,,try to put her in schedule that is esimated...
2. make sure,,she is hungry ! and make sure the meals are ready to eat by the time its her meal time !! hungry baby gets frustrated and overwhelmd seeng the food and rather tires herself by showng off her frustratns on food rathr eatng it.
also, if you think that she just wastes the food,,put the food pieces one by one to avoid messs, and unless and until she finishes it,,dont put the other food,,and put the food she does not like first,,make sure she keeps tastng it again and again,,my dd these days is after cucumber,,she wants to eat that only !,,i wil keep cucumber before her, one very small piece,,and the once she is done, i will feed her with spoon(rice and dal she doesnt eat by her self or rather gags it),and then its her turn,,to eat the roti or curry vegetables,,until she finishes that bite,,she wont be given other cucumber piece(which will be smallest)..... sometimes with my naughty girl,,that works !
3. make sure to keep her bowels regular,,the process of IN AND OUT should be regular,,if so,,child is able to get hungry on time !
irrespective of wat might have happnd.
4. ignore the mess or her odds and try to be part of it ! when my dd wants to put the plate upside down,,she knows the meaning of bad and good,,,i will tell her with verry very bad expressns thats its dirty dirty,,chee chceee,,,and she repeats chee,,,nirja(my dd name) is a good girl,,good girlsss dont do that,,,,right,,,put it back...back back back and while repeatng that words \" back\" ,i will put the one two pieces of food from the table,,back in my plate,,,,....
and guess what she does next,,she keep the plate right back how it was and starts puttng food back in it !
so first, make your child understand by the means of expressions what is good and what is bad.once thats done,,your life is easier by words..kids at 14months dont understand words but they understand the expressions very well, and when constant repeatitn and practice,,they relate it quite well...thats how in longer run will help them learn thr first words also...
to test your patience they keep trying the same things again and again, they want to see how you react,,its fun game for her,,so allow her to see all the good part and at the same time make sure to teach her that something that she was doing was wrong...instead of saying that NO, dont do this,,say,,ok, how about this !
and its only practice that can make them listen to us,,,so practice that as often as required,,without losng your mind, patience or anger !!
our kids looks upon us for everrything,no matter what and in that,if we happen to lose our mind,,its not worth expectng out of them to give results !
my dd has come to this point and to make herr understand this,,every meal on table, on her own, and past a month,,its been a big work for me !! its tiring,,and not to mention,,clean the mess she has made,,wash her because she makes a big mess...and thn i have carpet to clean...its a big work,,but she will learn out of it.and it has worked ! and worth it,,i would say !
don't force your 14month old to do nething, work on her,,relate her activities to good and bad,,she is ready for it,,and start showng off your Happy and Unhappy or Bad expressions for Each words//relate her particular expressn to one word and keep repeatng it !
so that she understands what it means ! it includes food as well..
surprsng it sounds but once babies above 1 year,,they become picky eater,,they crib, they cry to get thr things done,,the more you try to force them, the more aggresve they get,,this is just the right age,,no one is to be blamed !
being part of the whole game, making it together thing, and at the same time,,ensurng that she accepts your commands with a happy smile, is the way you want you want,,this is all the idea behind it.
most kids after 1 year are able to judge it well when they are given some food that they dont like at all,,they might eat when forced again and again and thn they vomit !! its pretty common,,just the right age,,,
just make sure she eats whats required,,thats enough,,let her do on her own whatever she is doing
teach her the words like stop, give, take, thankyou,,hi, bye, see ya,,yes and dont teach NO...and wat all it means,,and ask her to give you vessels from drawer and help you out,,for every thing she does,,appreciate her,,thank her,,and she will love to do it !! and then once she understands one word,,use that word again and again,,repeatitn nd practice is the key...
even though she feels it frustrating,,she will do it and thn run away :)..
make your child be the part of your daily chores,,give her opportunity to deal with daily objects that you are dealing with, vessels,,plates,,food,,and stuffs like that,,
start practicng all this,,to make her toddler years easy for you to deal with !!!
teething, grwth spurts, sudden change in weather,,moods running in family,,type of food, your lifestyle, your moods while dealing with her,,flavours, textures, shapes, colours and everything makes a lot of diff to these lil buds who are new to world ! no matter how hard you try,,its always a challenge to predict what they will finally end up eating !!
some days are so challenging,,that i have made 2-3 handful of meals,,just to make her eat..and most other times,,she eats like a good girl all that we eat...but you never knoww !!!!
toddlers arre unaware about whats going on with them ! just like we were unaware when we entered our youth life from teenage life !
so many changes,,change in moods/mood swings,,brain developments, understanding increases,,change in body,, change in prefernces,,indecsiveness, restlessness, willingness to explore everything and try out everything !! all that,,same works here.its all signs of toddler asking for prefernces,,do it myself job and trying to prove that she can do it by herself !!! so allow her !!!
tell me whats her daily routine and we will work out something...make sure to keep her in 4hour schedule and she is expected to be hungry..by 14months, expect your child to eat aleast around 25% of your one serving per dish !!
by then, if you want to look in some other posts where the probs were more or less like yours,,sure go ahead and try them first ,,,here it goes below :
