Hi Hetal,
I have found that u r too good in answering concerned mother's queries.. Please help me.
I have a daughter who is 13 months old. Her birth weight was 2.7 Kg. From the evry beginning she aws reluctant to drink milk. But when I started her to solid she took a lot of interest . But recenly she had lost interest in solids also. She is not at all ready to drink milk or any dairy products. Neither chesese nor Yogurts. She is now 8.6 Kg and 71 cm long. She is too active for her age. I am thinking of giving her Pediasure . Will it hep in getting her interest back in milk. How can I make her eat solid interestingly again. I am a fulltime working mother and my daughter stays witha maid and my mother in law. they get irritated managing her.. I am totally relying on your reply. Please reply to me .. and also if any other MOM who is in the same situation please help me.

Hetal replied. about giving pediasure, please see some practical exp from other moms and my inputs alongwith it :
--->if lactose is the taste that your daugher is not pref,,thn she will accept pediasure,,
--->if its the flavour of cows milk or milk taste/dairy taste,,thn adding some flavour like cardamom, cinnamon,,might help.
--->some kids feel heavy or bloaty because of milk lil qty,,and it sometimes happens that just after 1-2oz of cows milk, they feel heavy in stomach,,so lookin for low fat option might work for you !
--->also i would recm you to try soy milk which is calcium/iron fortified..look for organic !
---> if you are in US, i want you to try yobaby or dannibals,,kids love these yogurt taste as its just right in sourness or sweetness and has diff flavours in it,,,alternately, make your own,,add in cardamom, some ripe sweet strawberry(you might want to add in some sugar to it,,make sure the strawberries are very soft, tender and are fresh produce,,make sure to make it at room temperature with fresh curd(it should not become sour and is nicely set)offer it immediately after making the smoothie-yogurt,strawberry,,,)
-->add in cheese sprinkles/pwderd cheese/shredded cheese/or cheese crumbles to her daily diet,,it will ensure proper calcium in her diet,,even if she does not drink milk !
---> offer her iron fortified foods,,pref if u are in US, you get iron fortified juices, soy milk, tofu,,toddler gerber graduates cereals,,all these ensures good iron serving to your growing toddler/13months old !
---> add in warrm soups half an hour before her lunch,,,it will automatically increase her apetite and make her bowels regular.
--->offer her soups which has : spinach, tomatoes, squash, some shredded cheese in it,corn or green beans,,some sweet potato chunks, and add in some jaggery(to nullift tomato sourness only if needed),,and do tadka of ghee, curry leaves,coriander/parsley leaves,,crushed jeera, and hing,,..add in some ginger pwder in winters in your child soup(a lil goes a long way),,,add in beets if you get them !
---> wheat germ in all her foods which you cook/boil...
--->offer her wheat alternatives and check my post on finger foods jst a couple post below yours,,see if those alternatives are acceptable to your child.
make sure to offer your child foods that are family foods and includes family time dinners/meals and lunches..offer her more colourful alternatives, diff shapes, sizes, textures and play with flavours in her food and see if it appeals her..
try all these on weekends or on your leave days and let your caregivers/inlaws/maids continue the same thru out the week ! make your child food a night ahead or in early mornings so ask your caregivers to offer it in diff day times,,esp for 13months old,,every 4 hours cycle !!!!
see if these works and by then also talk to your dr,,if pediasure or ne other milk additive will work for your baby..some drs do recmnd jr horlicks or nesquick or complan/flavoured varieties,,even before 15months !
hope all these helps in gaining her good wght, let me know her updates and keep me updated about ne diet probs or so...
good luck to you !
