Feeding:Baby very active in the nights

My baby is 9 weeks old. I breastfeed my baby. During the day, he feeds every 2-3 hrs; that too sometimes I wake him up. He has sound sleep all through the day. But come night he gets up once every 1 hour. This makes me very tired and unable to feed for his demand.
Could you suggest me what I should do to avoid these short interval feeds? I donot want to bottle feed my baby right now. I try to keep my baby awake in the evenings so that he sleeps well in the night, but he is too sleepy & simply dozes away no matter what I do.

No matter how we keep the room dark in the nights, baby is quiet active in the nights.

Thanks for the responses.

at 9weeks, right now, you cant try to put your baby to schedule..its too early for her to bear things like making her awake and thn let her sleep..it will overtired her and might effct her growth.
atleast until first 3months its not advisable to force your baby to sleep or not to sleep...the only key to it is sleep when your baby sleep !

if you dont want to bottlefeed your baby its unlikely that she will not ask for feeds for longer duration..she is just 1.5months,,,,and this age she has to ask for feeds every 2-3hours..which is just what she is doing...so dont mess with it.unless if you offer formula at nights and it will make her sleep,,which will happen ONLY IF formula is heavy for her and not because formula makes babies sleep !

its tiring i know,, but its too early to put her to schedule..

you can start giving tries of putting her to schedules when she is 2months compltd,,....
that is the time that she will be able to remain awake,,,,or might get interested in looking at you and play a while,,with close interaction of facial expressions and you can then give her massage and bedtime bath and make her sleep.you can start making it a routine..by that time you will know her exact cues as to how she is comfortable in sleeping or staying awake..once you know it,,making her busy with playtime will be easier task and then you can plan her to put to sleep,,with the routine setup...

there are few moms who are lucky to sleep thru out the night right from day 1,,,! after working on massages, bath and good playtimes..there were some who were able to sleep then onwards...and some like me,after trying all the best tips and tricks,,,had to get up and feed baby in middle of night !

so you decide what you want to opt for,,check with your baby first,,if she accepts,,,you will be lucky enough.

good luck.
