hi
yup tamarind is not good for health..but it dpends on how often, wat qty you use it in all your food,,if rasam is the only food you are using it,,you can offer it,,,
nething in limit is good !
for 2year, he is expected to deal with almost all the foods that family eats.which includes all hot, sour and all foods,,,once a while replace tamarind with tomato, ripe mango,or mango pwder or lemon rasam,,,if the sour taste is what your son is after !!!
other than, you can add in more vegies, jaggery(even though not taste good in rasam,,alil is better to throw in,,to nullify the sourness in cooking),,
many cultures offer tamarind based foods like rasam, sambhar from as early as 4-6months,,and because the mother has been eating the same diet thru out the pregnancy,,its expected that baby will not face prob associated with side effects or what we call ne skin rashes due to tamarind,,if its your regular food, its not a problem,,but if you have just started it, it might give your child problems like stiffness in joints in winters or skin rashes,,,and because m married to south indian, and recently i started using tamarind in our daily diet,,i was facing probs in prev weeks but now i njoy it and my body is used to it ! also to mention that when we are using tamarind and such strong spices,,i have often seen that the amt of ghee that we use in south indian diet in rice and tadka,,often balances the sourness all together in the day..also the other foods like paisam and other foods have real spices which helps body from getting pitha caused by tamarind,,which i have not seen other cultures of india !! or may be personally i havent used them,,because i belong from north :),,,so thats my comments on it,,,
so its upto you to decide,,i will not comment on it,,because many cultures have successfully offered rasam to thr babies from infancy and their babies were perfectly fine thru out their lives,,,
keep an eye on his physical activities or ne joint related pains or so,,ne fevers or so,,avoid offering tamarind from then onwards or during that time,,,,,rest all is okay !
you must be making a tasty rasam,,i must taste it :),,,kids generally dont like it,,and if your son is drinking that with glass,it must be tasty :))
take care, thanks for wishes !
good luck
