I have a 9 yr old daughter. I am working mother. She is very shy. She hesitates to even sing or dance in front of me. She does not talk much to me also. Its not that she does not talk all, the problem is in expressing her self clearly, which she is very lazy to do. She expects us to understand with the one word what she says.

If I ask her what she did in her school, I get one line or one word answers most of the days. Even in the school the teacher was complaining that she is business like in her talking. Only when asked by the teacher she answers and her answers are short ones. I have tried telling her that she needs to speak and only then I will be able to understand what she wants. But of no use. How do I get her to express her feeling and talk to me??? I don’t want my relationship with her to be like that of what I have with my mother. I don’t confide to my mother. I just don’t have that close relationship with my mother. I want her to open to me and talk. Please do suggest how do I get her to talk. Married lovely replied. Hopefully, by now your daughter would have improved a lot and your problem is solved. You send her more time to play with other children, when they dance, play,sing so she learn from them.she come out slowly from inferiority feeling.You will ask more questions to get full answer, put demands like I will take you out in week ends only if you answer my questions etc., Don' t ask ended questions but ask open questions about friends, school etc., I don' t know relation about your mother, probably this have influenced your daughter. You should not have quarreled in front of her.
