Hi Neeta,

To use raagi with formula milk, i think u could boil raagi flour with water for 3-5 mins and then mix it with formula milk.

Bye.

Subject:  Raagi is supposed to be cooling

Hello,

As per my knowledge Raagi is supposed to be cooling and is mostly given to children in India in summers as the weather is hot. Its not a good idea to give too much raagi to children in winters esp to those children who are prone to cold and cough often, THESE ARE MY PERSONAL VIEWS.

I agree to what Ms.PM and Ms. Amrutha have written.!

Hi Amrutha,
Iam sure you must be totally confused with all these mixed feelings.Well!I can talk only for myself and from my experience.I've been feeding my son ever since he was 6mths,and still continuing it every morning. And from my experience I do not see any change due to feeding Ragi.Iam not adivicing you to give your baby, its just a suggestion.End of the day you are the mother and you know the best for your child.Goodluck

PS
Dear PM
Well...I live in a country where its freezing throughout the year,as recommended by my elder folks that ragi is very good for cold weather,I feed for my son and also the whole family have it as well.I also know some other Indian mothers who are Doctors themselves over here in Scotland feeding their child who are younger to my son.So Sorry,Iam definately not mistaken on this. But as I said each mother will know whats the best for their child.

Hi Amrutha,

Actually what u said is true about raagi, its not good to give too much in winter as it is very cooling and can cause cold to children also. This is just the opposite of what Melanie said. Melanie i think u r mistakened, raagi is not good in winters.

Bye

HiAmrutha,
No!Ragi infact is great source of comfort, and my mom and mother-in-law tells me that its the best thing to give children during winter and raining days as it is heaty.I have been giving my son ever since he was 6mths and he is 10mths now and we live in Scotland where in 365 days in the year its cold and rains all the time.So don't worry its fine to give young children.I know some mothers who give their children 2 times a day morning and evening as it is so good.I do not, as then, they tend to get fed up of it.
So Amurtha, thru my experience I never had this problem,so go ahead and give your baby as it is really very good in minerals, vitamins, iron calcium and everything.Hope I was able to give you some help and clear your doubt on it.

I normally make with his milk ,for 200ml milk I put a tablespoon of ragi, heat on slow flame till it gets thicken,my boy hates it to be very thick so I try not to make thick,I also add a cube of brown sugar as it is good or you can add jaggery as it is rich in iron and sugar can be ommitted.
Let me know how you got on with it
