dear hetal,
are they safe for babies ? what is right age to start these spices ?
i have 2-3 cooking books with infant and toddler recipes. the authors are US docs and they have recipes with salt, sugar, chillies, garlic and onions from 9months.
can i give my 10month old these recipes.please share your ideas regarding this.

hi, lemeee reply you first, small reply..
there is no recommended right age to start for spices. if you are talking about indian spices like chillies, ginger ,,they are ok to give after 1 year when your baby is ready for family foods..make sure you give him enough butter/ghee/cheese or milk products like curd to nullify the acidity caused by these spices.in your books the usage of spices mentioned must be in terms of ginger/garlic or onion pwder(and i am sure it must be just a sprinkle or two),,and the chillies mostly introduced from 9months onwards are red bell peppers(capscicums,,),,these are mildest in flavour and to my knowledge, i think the measurement suggested must be 1tsp of chopped bell peppers and likewise...
most babies are ready for mild spices like oregano, italian seasonings, salt, cardamom, cinnnamon, jeera pwder, corainder pwder, curry leaves, crushed jeera,,parsley and celery,,turmeric,,,hing,...
for the others its better to go slow when it comes to spices..
by whatever even i said, always go slow with spices and its ok if your baby is not comfortable,,try after sometime..check for ne cues like reflux, uneasiness in stomach,or ne stomach upset for ne new foods or spices you use,,make sure watever spices you use, your baby is accepting it well without ne reflux problems,,
rest all is fine !
good luck,,happy dasheraa to all of you,,b back soon !
