Hetal replied. hi !
go for whatever suitable amt that suits your baby and your baby skin is comfortable with it....
i havent use this oil on my baby,, what i do personally is just rub her a good baby rub on her chest, feet, back of chest, keep her head, feet, chest covered all thet time,,have a warm humidifier onn(without ne oil but plain purified water or filtered/not regular tapwater,,use saline drops, and give turmeric milk(11months onwards,8oz warm milk with 1/2tsp of turmeric everyday or just night depending on severity of cold),,and while massage she gets a good massage of sesame oil(its hot nature) with a lil garlic or ajma sauted in it(remove small or half garlic pod OR a lil sprinkle of ajma pwder),,nd let it stay a while,,and then after 30mins,,i give her a good warm bath with mild soap and after bath a good rub as well as totally warm outfit...during all this duration my heater is onn(coz of winter),at 79!!.
and in 2-3days she is out of cold..howwver,it dpends on severity of cold.
since sonia has already used it, i would not comment on it,,,i personally feel that eucalyptus oil is strongest option and i will not use unless my baby is 2years of age.during post pregnancy massages in cold areas, to relieve the stress and post pregnancy depression, a ayurvedic massage uses the ratio 1-2 drop of this oil in 6-8drops of olive/musturd/sesame/coconut oil,,depending on skin of the person,,,so as to provide healing from pains and relieve the post natal stress...so imagine 1-2drop strength of it !!! it was my experience when i got my post natals massages done,,it was a lifetime experience though !!
i also avoid using ne rub on forehead, until your baby is 15months of age, the reason is its the vapors that gives effect in cold and kids often feel tears in eyes because of its strenght..with vicks baby rub itself i observed on my baby,,so i will never put on her forehead..
i have heard some cultures in east asia, putting a drop of this oil in water and sprinkle this mixture on their bedding some 15mins before baby sleeps...also these spinkle doesnt make bedding wet or damp,,itts that little...ratio my friend uses is 1drop:8oz of warm water...
they say it prevents congestion and give continuous vapors thru out night..i havent tried that though,,it was an expereince shared by my chinese friend...
so upto you,,go by whatever convinces you and you think is right for your baby,,please note...this is my personal opinion..
so hope things works out well for you nd do post in your updates at your visit..
sonia replied. hi !again ! well just give about 2 drops for steam and that too inthe toilet and for a longer time. cover your baby's head and chest when u come out and make sure the doors and windows r closed. and about ghee - this is my grandma's receipe. just warm a little about a tbsp and gently rub on the forehead, chest etc. and do pay attention about cough at night. night cough is not good. and another thing steam is essentially good when the cold is running. u can also try nasal drops or saline water as babies cannot blow out the mucus. i really hope your doct's apt goes well and your little one feels better soon. u can also call the nurse line u know - i am sure there must be one with your insurance ! take care ! hope all this helps !
