Hi Hetal and everyone,
My baby is 6 weeks old, and for the past 5 days has been having stools which are little mucusy. The colour is the usual yellow colour and seedy. He is exclusively on breast milk. Last week he was on formula for 2 days since I was asked not to breastfeed him for 48 hours since I had undergone a CAT scan. Could this formula intake cause mucus in his stool. Otherwise he is fine. Iam worried abt the mucus in his stool. Though i really dont know if it is too much or normal mucus. I feel it is stringy to some extent. What do you think is the problem?? pls reply.

Hetal replied. ne mucus in stool is a sign that baby needs to be seen by your dr or an antibiotic dosage.it could be nething, mild infections, loose motions,,some food or medicine allergy, ne other yeast or bacterial infection or ne other sign of fever...
about ct scan affectng the bm its Not True !
let me point you some breastfeeding myths by dr jack newman :
hwver, if the method of ct scan is traditional style, thn,it depends on what part of body was scanned !
also, note that in traditional styles of ct scan,,mostly all imaging is done for the digestive system,,otherwise the rest of the test are pssble with other tests...and if thats the only part of ct scan,,its unlikely that it will cause ne such problem. unless otherwise the rays were stronger or was done by unexperienced professional and it resulted upset in your digestives,,showing a direct effct on baby...
if you are comfortable in sharing,,do share,,why were you asked for cat scan..that might throw some lights.
otherrwise,,ne mucus or strings like substance in stool, is not a good sign...
so get him checked by your dr. if you are not able to judge the amt of mucus or strings,,take the diaper with you to your dr,,he might directly send it to lab and results will be out !! he might not need to further bother your baby for ne other tests !
the other is see is watery, mucus-streaked stools, yellowish,,or soft on liquid side is a sign of mild diarrhoea..
but please note that occasional loose stools of bf baby are normal. But not mucus.
the other causes of this, could be the medication given in ct scan...
formula does not cause ne mucus in stools..
so thats all i can see as of now...
please contact your dr at once without ne delay ! would appreciate an update.
good luck !

RE:Baby cries while passing urine - Hetal pls advice
At the same time the child is feeling some pain So try to understand and consult a doctor.... - sharmasanvi [View Message]
RE:bowel movement in 2 week old infant
Some babies go through phases when they either can't use the muscles to empty their bowels or they "forget how to". In that case, it's safest keep using the suppositories daily to make them do a dirty in 5 minutes.... - Su 03 [View Message]
RE:where can I get laxative?
You can get either glycerin or bisacodyl suppositories in any Indian pharmacy - I recommend saving money by not buying child-size ones, instead cutting adult supps in half to make a child-size dosage.
(I have a daughter with long-term bowel issues: she can't "do" without them!)... - Su 03 [View Message]
RE:constipation
When the baby is in discomfort from constipation (especially if she hasn't done some dirty for two days or more), the first thing you should give is a glycerin suppository.... - Su 03 [View Message]
RE:hi
Most doctors say banana doesn't help - the potassium in it makes constipation worse. Remember you can make your own prune puree in a blender. Grape, grapefruit and papaya are also laxative fruits. And remember you can safely use baby suppositories as often as you need to (they also help with "training" the baby to do a dirty at the same time every day)... - Su 03 [View Message]
RE:Baby Movements/Development
Consult a good doctor immediately as this should not be ignored as it will cause a big issue if you let it go now, please seek doctors advice on immediate basis.... - Aditi [View Message]
RE:Baby Movements/Development
Hi there please be calm and relax as it happens sometime the child takes little time to start walking or crawling also but in your case the child should have started crawling if not walking.... - Anita [View Message]
