hi hetal,
first i wud like to appreciate u for ur fantasttic effort to support all the momz in thiz board.u have got a wonderful writtenlanguage which iz easily understood..the way u explain iz something which shows affection n makes us feel that u r our neighbour buddy.i juz got to know that u are expecting ur second ..i have been to thiz board from the past 2 months.i wud like to ask few questions
1) my baby iz 7 months old..yet to teeth..so shall i start gicing finger biscuits..yday i have given one..she eats nicely n she likes it but i am afraid if she having a bigger peice n chokes...iz not it too early to start??
2)i used to give her whole milk boiled (daily 5 oz)bcuz none of the formula milk suits her..so her ped finally said that i can continue with cow's milk bcuz she will get severaly constipated with all the formula milk..she iz doin fine with cow's milk alone..she iz on Bm TOO
.though her ped said ok to cow's milk i am worried whther she gets enough nutrition frm it.
3)she doesnot sit.she will roll over n over..she rolled over by 4.5 months..my inlaws says it too late for her that she iz not yet trying to sit or crawl..iz it too late??
4)my baby will have food1/4 to 1/2 cup thrice a day(rice n dhal,semoline kheer,spinach n rice,mixed cereals,cerelac).......fruits 4 tsp a day,veggies 3 tsp a day hardly..oz thiz ok??
5)why dunt u publish a parenting book with the name\";indiaparenting\";????we people are here to support u if u publish..i have bought heidi murkoff's \";what to expect when u r expecting \";and \";the first year of baby\";..but itz completely westernized so hard to dijest....so i always think to suggest u abt thizz...in heidi's book itz full of questin n ansers from mommy's sectioned from 1st month to 12th month..so i think u can fetch the questions frm here itself..what do u say..if i am poking nose unnecessarily..i am sorry my dear

hi rayyan, thanks for the commnts/cmplimnts...

1. minimum requirements for teething biscuits or ne solid finger foods are : baby head should be steady n in his control, can crawl or hold himself above the floor with his hands n kness with tummy off the floor,,uses his jaw to mash foods with gums(irrespective of havin teeth or not),,,is able to eat thicker, lumpier foods, with large pieces/chunks,,and can hold the small foods in his hands/thumb and the first finger,,...
if your baby is doing most of these things, he is ready for teething biscuits.. min expected age for babies to start eating soften biscuits is 6months//try barley teething biscuits or single grain ones,,,howver, the amt should not exceed 1 biscuit per day,in case of ne grain biscuits upto 9months ! mstly teething biscuits in US does not include wheat, unles you buy specifically multigrains or wheat ones.
2.abt cows milk, when these formula were not of good quality and when there was not much progress in baby formula,,, the first milk after bm that was introduced to babies was cows milk.,,dpnding on baby apetite the diff cultures of india and other countries,,,mixed water to cows milk..some babies were ok with 100% cows milk and others were ok with diluted milk..the others who showed allergies, were given goat milk or other animals milk...
since your baby is ok with cows milk, there is no reason for your worries. your ped is seeing your baby right from day 1 and also his growth when the milk was started,,which means, he was ok with developments and it means that your baby is upto his expectations !! down the line it also means he is able to absorb most of the nutrients upto his highest percentile,,,which makes me comfortable that he should continue cows milk, without ne worries....and since she is on BM,i am not all worried,,BM has just the right nutrients, a baby needss !!!!

abt constipation, i would like to add that a healthy normal BREASTFEED baby often feels constipated when formula was started and that he is on solids...its normal thing, unless its case of severe constipation where baby cried or showed blood in passing bowels, and his apetite was not able to digest formula/allergic to milk solids/ or is not able to accept formula because of some other ingrediant in it which he might be allergic to (if so, your dr must have conducted some allergy test by now)... and considering that you have tried all types of formula, including soy formula/hypoallergic formula and he still wasnt able to digest it !!! however, i would not like to comment on what your dr suggested..your dr knows your baby best.

3.for sitting, when to worry,,,http(:)//www(.)indiaparenting(.)com/boards/showmessage(.)cgi?messageid=772&table_name=dis_milestones
check my reply when to worry about sitting !

4. a 7month old is expected to eat as below : http(:)//www(.)indiaparenting(.)com/boards/showmessage(.)cgi?messageid=5638&table_name=dis_feeding
you have to understand that aap or ne health organisation schedules/recommendations are to measure and ensure the positive growth of the baby and does not necessarily mean that your baby SHOULD be eating or following the same......as these studies/schedules are based on large surveys mostly in US & sometimes mixed races,,,so one has to understand that he/she should follow the schedules/timelines or recommndations by certain body,,ONLY UPTO THE acceptance BY HER BABY and upto the expectations of race/country you belong to.. !!! its only mother who knows when her baby is FULL...

also note that most US babies or let me add most western country babies apetites are larger than asian/eastern babies,,so please keep a note of that in your mind...try to include quality but not exact quantity..hope you got my point.

5. thanks for your inputs, indeed worth a try !

your baby current weight is 7mnths=7.1kgs,,so considering her as a healthy on time baby,i would assume her baby birth weight to somewhere around : 2.9kgs-3.5kgs..
if her birthweight was leess than 2.9kgs,,,,then at 7mnths,7 kgs is very good.keep it up...

But, if her birth weight was above 3.5kgs, and she is 7mnths with 7kgs,,then i m concerned nd she needs to add in either the quality(variations of foods ) or quantity in her foods ! if not both,,then she needs to alter cows milk with whatever your dr suggest considering your baby weight/growth....
i m doing this calculation based on current weight given !
nothin much i could dig innnnnn...

hope you have a wonderful time with your lil one !
