My baby is 9 months + 1 week. The following is his diet. Could you please tell me if this is okay OR I need to change something ?
6:00 am, 9 am, 12:30 pm, 6:30 pm, 8:30 pm, 11:30 pm: Milk (BM)
10 am - Breakfast (1 - 1.5 Idli/ Rice roti in coconut milk/Dosa/Chappathi)
11:30 - Juice (Musambi/Orange)
2 pm - Rice with curd/dal and 1 vegetable (Whatever we make at home - beans/cabbage/carrot/beetroot/...) + boiled fish (Tuna) with turmeric
4:30 pm - Ragi + milk
5:30 pm - apple
I am using coconut milk for soaking the roti to make it soft. Is it okay for the kid to give coconut ?
Whenever he sees anyone eating, he has to have something, even if he has just finished his meals. Is this normal ?
Thanks,
Savithri

your baby is ready to start toddler cereals, add in them,,as they are iron fortified cereals,,babies need that upto atleast 1 year..so if you dont want to disturb this, give iron fortified cereal along with these or make it a snack time in afternoons replacing the fruit serving,,often these cereals have a good serving of fruits, esp the mixed fruit one.
11:30 - Juice (Musambi/Orange) ///replace with chopped fruits,,banana and apple,,babies need these 2 regularly atleast once a day, upto age of 1 ! for citrus, prefer giving in juices in afternoons,,giving one citrus with one iron fruit is great idea !! give orange and bananna, or apple,mosambi..avoid giving orange and apple,,both will gv sour taste, baby might not like11,but a good option neways..
2 pm - Rice with curd/dal and 1 vegetable (Whatever we make at home - beans/cabbage/carrot/beetroot/...) + boiled fish (Tuna) with turmeric --- avoid cabbage..cabbage is not recommended for toddlers below 2 years..it doesnt have nething good in that !!! offer varieties of other vegies,,,offer lentils, dals, introduce soaked roti in dal soup or curry to your baby,,,introdce your baby to mixed cereals(includes wheat) before going for multigrains and whole grains..
4:30 pm - Ragi + milk -- no comments..
5:30 pm - apple --- replace this with diluted juice(1juice:2,3,4parts of water, watever your baby accepts),,prefer giving apple-prune,apple-citrus juices,,,
try to have atleast 2hours of gap in between his servings of snacks or meals,,so that he digests them well !
dinner,,start introducing pastas, finger foods, and offer meals at dinner time that have been missed the whole day,,like by the end of 1 day, your baby is expected to eat 5 differnt colour vegies and 5 diff colour fruits,,,so dinner is the best time to offer watever your baby is missing thru out the day.
introduce curd as a part of snack or a part of lunch,,avoid at dinners..
serving of curd and milk or milk products should have a decent gap of 3 hours to avoid ne allergies or skin pigmentations probs...all from 9months onwards..
before sleep, offer him full feed of bm or formula,,,
your baby doesnt need coconut milk right now,,instead give lentils and soak roti in that...if you still want to give, make lentil soup adding coconut milk in it..coconut milk is abit heavy,,try coconut water..in winters, avoid using this fruit, because it cools body,,often causes mild internal colds..
its ok for baby to get interested in foods even though they are full when others are eating...to avoid overfeeding, make him eat along with you all,,the best way ! babies above 8months njoy being a part of family meals ! its normal otherwise,,whenever he wants to have the food you are having,,offer something different from your plate that he doesnt have in his normal schedule or his own meal..this will create interest in him and his acceptance to spices will also be easier because he is interested in tasting and trying foods..thats just the best way to introduce family foods to kids..i started that when my baby started doing that,,at 1 year, she was eating all our foods, including spices,,good for me,i never had to make seperate meals for her !! just make your own meals abit less spicer...and i think thats healthy for us too..
check for ne allergies, discomfort for ne foods you start.
her weight looks good,,would be happy if she gains a couple 100 grams :))
good Luck.
