when to worry and colours of bowels.
babies are constipated only if they are passing stools for more than 3-4 days, with shrill cry and extremely dry stools,,often of black colour or dark colours..if so, they need medical attention..
again please note that when it comees to babies, well things have been pretty much normal even after they passed their stools on 5th day !!
what matters is the cues he shows during these bowels often like crying as if in pain just before passing bowels or during the process or sometimes jst after the bowels, cries badly duringg tummy time..,looking tired and sleepy just after the bowels.. all these cues are NOT GOOD..take him to dr.
try pessing gently just below his bellybutton area,if he seems to be in pain then he needs to be taken to dr immediately.
causes of constipation are : formula, dehydration, and medical condition caused by some food you are taking, and he is not feeling good with that,,often it happens.
some things to try for mild constipation, give her a good exercise..pedal her legs like bicycle making her sleep on his back..he will like it,,give her massage, measure around three finger widths below her naval and give gentle but firm pressure with your fingers(dont do this after feeds,,its to do in playtime or atleast 1hour after feeds).give constant pressure for abt 2-3mins.check his cues and responses and how far he is comfortable with it,,if he is not feeling good with it, dr needs to see him.
switching brand of formula,might help..
now abour yellow urine & colour of bowels :
gnrly,,urine for 3months infant is expected to be pale yellow.and bowels are mostly yellowish.
now i want to tell you onething that when to be concerned about this.
see your dr at ne of the below signs : 1.less than 6 wet diapers a day, keep an account of it.
2.less than 1 bowel movement a day or after 4-5days ! in your case, 3 is ok or still acceptable, but if it was me, considering the dark yellow urine,i will rush my baby to dr.
3. dark yellow urine, or urine with reddish tinge/dust in it,,yellow tinge to skin that is just below the chest line is often because of mild jaundice.also yellowness in the " whites" of the baby eyes, can be signs of mild jaundice.now i dont want to scare you but keep a check on his wet diapers, and how dark is the yellow colour.you judge the colour.i cant see it virtually, but yellowish colour is ACCEPTED/NORMAL and DARK YELLOW IS NOT NORMAL.now you look at it carefully in the daylight(not in yellow light),,go out of your house and see the diaper in the daylight/natural sun light or white light,,,to make sure about the colour.
since you are bf you drink lots of water, and keep yourself hydrated.
ne decline in his weight, feeling less interested in his regular feeding times, sudden loss of apetite, and dark yellow colour of urine,,needs an attention from dr.
Green colour stools in exclusive bf babies is a warning sign that baby needs to see dr.and if the baby stools are nearly green or greenish and he has stopped gaining weight even though with enough feeds from your side,,it means he is getting too much of your foremilk and not the hindmilk...
consistent green stools is often the sign that your baby is sensitive to some foods that you are taking,or even it could be some medications that you are taking like iron supplements, antibiotics or ne multivitamins..
other than that, green stools(often more towards darkgreen) that are very sticky,or greasy,,,or constipation stools which gives pain are not a good sign,,take him to dr.
finally, changing formula might help you more because mostly green stools are found in formula fed babies as one of the variation of stool colour that shows that baby is not comfortable with the current formula & is sensitive to it or rather allergic to it.
from 2months onwards, expect your baby to pass pasty consistency bowels, smelly bowels, dark colour bowels,,pale yellow urine...
other than this, if babies are not properly fed, they get constipated,,at 3months babies are expected 5-6feeds of bf on demand or 5-6feeds of 4-6oz of formula or bm by bottle.if your baby is drinking less than this, this is probably a reason for his late bowels.so check onthat...
other than all this, i dont see nething that comes to my notice!!!
good luck.
