Hetal - is omnicef 250mg/5/sus abbott safe ? why did my dr prescribe this during earinfection.this medicine is working though, her stuffy nose and ear pain has reduced and she sleeps well at night. it has been 4 days i am giving this medicine. she just turned 1 year. her weight is 22lbs and 29inches.she eats all table foods and sometimes our food when its less spicy.she is on cows milk and takes 100% juices.
last month and before that too, she had an ear infection she was given amoxillin with some other medicine. both the times she had amoxicilin.why this time another medicine ?

omnicef i give her once a day as recommended by my dr. she is having red or marroon stools since then. is this normal with this medication.as told by you in one post i checked for the side effects but this is not mentioned in that. so i am worried if this is blood.
she had ear infection third time in past 4 months. why is that. is there anything to worry.
please reply i am worried if the colour in the stool is blood.

i think i have replied this in health issues board where you have posted the same message...so just pasting my reply here for you :

kavita, since its been 4 days with this medication, and its recovering i dont see any side effects.

with this medicine the reddish-maroon stools are very common.this medicine has a component in it that when reacts to digestive juices gets this colour.also expect your baby sugar levels in blood and urine to go high with this.its normal. once recovered and when medicine is stopped, al wil come to normal once the effect of medicine is seen.

its normal for babies to have this, esp if baby lately has any high iron diet.
i am NOT worried with this medicine as far as your baby has got NAUSEA AND VOMITTING or a HIGH FEVER,ABOVE 100...other than that ALL is fine.

the reason why your dr didnt give the prev medicine is because he expects that this ear infection is recurring and since one medication didnt work, past 2 times, he is expecting that this one will not make it reappear next time.it works sometimes.
in case if,again your baby has ear infection, you will be asked to see ent dr/ear,nose,throat dr who will be able to cure this problem forever or may be find something that is cause not known until now to your ped.

there is nothing to worry, some babies are very sensitive to this and mostly after 8months onwards, teething, drooling, water games, transitioning to sippy cup, graduation to solids, too much of hiking activies or activities related to muddy parks or recreations where allergens are more,,,ear infections are bound to happen. its just that, some like yours are sensitive to it.

i dont see any worries, as far as you are making sure your baby doesnt drink from bottle while she sleeps or leans straight.she has to sit and drink so that liquid doesnt stay stucked in passages of nose and throat. it has to pass by gravity, so keep her upright and only then give bottle. or else she will keep getting ear infections again and again,as it is she is sensitive to it.
nothing to worry unless your baby gets more than 5times ear infections in 6months,,then only it will concern me and your dr itself will advice you to see ent.
thats all good luck
