if your dr has recommended it, its advisable to do so. i mentioned before also, until its not recommended by your dr, dont give....do wat dr has told you. it depends on every dr about dosage..if your dr has told to take it before leaving for india, do that,,if not, follow his instructions..
if your dr has recommended it to your baby, i am sure he knows about the safety levels !
so good luck and dont risk nething when it comes to health of baby..prevention is better than cure !
happy journey.

DS,

I am planning to travel India next week & my baby will be 8 months. My ped has also prescribed Mefloquin (anti malarial capsules) for my baby. She has asked to give 1 week before travel & four weeks after travel. I think its better to give if ur place has more mosquitoes & be sure to use Mosquito nets..

happy journey.

its not required to take ne medication unles recommended by your US dr. apart from that, its advisable to take tylnol, motrin for your convinience to give until you reach your dr in India...its better to see a dr in india and make sure you write all or keep all the prescription that was given to your child on your way back to US..take an appointment here and show it your dr in US.
if nething happens in India, let indian dr decide what is the exact cause and remedy for ne type if illness.
good luck to your journey.

Hi HETAL,
Thanks for ur reply.
My US dr has prescribed the anti-malarial tablets becas we told them we are going to India which they consider as a malaria zone. I am doubtful about giving the medicine in a young baby who is less than 1 year..Also i am worried abt mosquitoes in India..Is it a good idea to take it?? or can we risk not giving it to my son?? The issue is those medicines have to be given one week before the travel adn during the whole course of the travel .

Hi ,

When i took my son who was 6 months then , my doc here didnt give me any medication . I went to india and saw a doc there and he gave me antimalaria tonic. We had to give him that tonic 1 spoon every week once. Thats it.
