Feeding:Baby Not eating Solids

Hi Friends,
My baby is 8 months old and she is not eating sold foods. During day time she doesnt drink any milk, only during night she drinks milk, that too never more than 4 oz. I tried variety of foods, both home made and gerber, but nothing helped. I tried vegetable, fruits, and other kinds of wheat/rice cereal, but she is keeps everything in her mouth and tries to spill it out. Iam tried to show her interesting toys to distract her but she doesnt look at them. She concentrates on the food in her mouth and just tries to spill it out (or doesnt swallow). I'm very worried, please give any tips.

Subject:  Solids

Hi Pallavi,

I am giving all kinds of Solids available in Market.since i am working i am not able to prepare any food variety at home.I am giving Cerelac and Farex Mixed vegetables,Mixed fruits,Dal palak, rice,Wheat Apple. But i tried givig him fresh fruits Like papaya,Banana and Grapes. He does not like.He makes a sound as if he feels like vomitting. So i stopped.May be i will try after one week.I tried giving 'Idli' in a mashed form.He does not like that also very much.May be two tiny pieces he will have and makes a sound like vomitting. So i don't have any other option. But now onwards i am planning to give him home made rice kanji and Moong dal mixed with rice kanji(atleast on weekends).Let me see what is his response?

What about your Baby? What kind of Solid foods you are giving her?My Mother and My hubby tells me that feeding forcefully can make the kids to dislike food completely. But i don't have any choice.Till he starts eating a variety of foods (at least each food little quantity) i have to do feed him forcefully only.

Thanks
Jaya

Subject:  Same Situation

Hi Pavani,

My situation is as bad as u.My baby is also 8 months old.Till i breastfed (till 5 months) he was fine taking milk properly.Once i introduced the bottle he started refusing and the quantity decreased for each feeding.at one time he completely refused to take milk at all.I started giving milk using Paladai(a small instrument used to give medicines to babies) forcefully. When it was time to have solids(6 months) also he was not chewing. He was vomitting if i give forcefully.so i mixed solids with milk or water and make it less consistent and gave him.Now he is a bit better. Now he is having solids in thicker consistency. But still the quantity is low.But he is very active.Doctor says weight is not very less.so no need to worry. But he is not very chubby.Still i am having problems with him for each feeding.

what about ur baby's weight? Is she normal weight or Underweight? What i understood from my experience is you should keep trying feeding them in small quantities whatever they like.Should not allow them starve completely.Have somebody with u whenever u are feeding your baby and ask thim to play with ur kid or distract her.So that she may not concentrate on spitting. In my case my mothe keep talking to him or play with him so that he will not turn his face away from food.Talk to ur Pediatrician also abt this.He may give u better idea.

Regards
Jaya
