I would like to ask which disposible diaper (diaper for one use Huggies or Pampers..)do you have in India? And is it available everywhere? How much it costs? And if it is available only in big cities where I can buy it? We are going for holidays to India (through Mumbai) with our 5 month old son. And we couldnt find any disposible diapers available in India on internet.

Priya replied. HI Martina,
I had taken ubmrella stroller as that is only allowed on the flight, i had taken car seat also. They never weigh stroller and carseat that is allowed for children. When i went to India last year we had 65 kgs luggage and we were alloted only 40 kgs, but no one says anything as u r with a child, secondly the flight should be light, in other words the flight should not be full. If the flight is not full then they usually allow more than 40 kgs for 2 persons this is my personal experience. But u cannot say much as it is as per the discretion of the counter staff. Pls check with LH 2days prior to ur flight, if the flight is full or empty.
Bye
Priya replied. Hi Martina,
First of all u dont get wet tissues in India in every shop and esp not in Kota because that concept doesnt exist in India, u will get it in custom shops in india but i advise that u carry atleast 2 pkts as u r going only for 14 days , even carrying diapers for 14 diapers should not be a problem, so pls do so. Wet tissues and diapers are very expensive in India, its dirt cheap for us here in Europe so pls carry ur stock.
Yes its true that strollers are no use in India as its so difficult to walk on the roads but inspite of all this i had taken a stroller to India and i managed anyhow with it on the roads as it becomes very difficult to carry the child all the while as we are not used to it. I even took a car seat and used it on the flight and even when travelling in the car in India, so it was of great help. My child used to happily sleep in the car seat and we were relaxed. I think in ur travel by train car seat for sleeping will be a better option than stroller (prams are not allowed on the flight, but u can put it in ur check in luggage)
I did not use any anti malaria tblts but i feel now that i should have used it. So i suggest after ur doctors advise u should go for it. I think my son got infection in India from the pacifier but it could be feeding bottle also, i am not sure.
So all the best to you. Pls write if u need some info.
Bye.
Priya replied. HI Martina,
Sorry for replying so late, actually we were holidaying near the Austrian Alps! The quality of Huggies and Snuggies is no way comparable to the quality of diapers u get here in Europe. So pls carry ur stock of diapers from here itself before u leave.
I have read some ladies views on their experience in India, its not so bad. There is no harm at all if all ur husbands family members want to carry ur child. Which place are u planning to visit in India? I do agree that u have to take utmost care of ur baby when u r in India as the child could be prone to man diseases in India. I travelled with my son when he was 7 months to India and he felt very sick in India and i had to postpone my flight, he had gastro, so please take care. Its good that u r breast feeding so no problem of infection from feeding bottle, but i am sure u baby must be using the pacifier, so be very careful and see that the pacifier is sterilised atleast twice a day.
Let me know if u need any more info.
Bye.
Priya replied. HI Martina,
Dont worry u get Huggies and Snuggies, 2 brands in India for disposable diapers, u get these diapers in any possible drug store in India in any city. U do get Pampers also but may be not at all shops and its very expensive. As per my knowledge 1 huggies diaper is around Rs. 12- Rs 15 approx. I am an Indian and live in Germany, whenever we travel to India i always carry a huge stock of diapers from Germany as it is very expensive in India.
All the best!

hi Pryia,
thanks for your all advices. Now I will just see how our trip will be :).
I think I havent chance that Lufthansa will allow me more than 40 kgs, because I am starting in Prague to Frankfurkt first and they are stricked here :((((. I just bought travel bed and it has 10 kg, so rest is just 30kg. Not many. Hopefully all will be fine :)

Hi Priya,
did you take stroller or umbrella stroller? I dont know if they will take me stroller into the plane. And what about car seat? Could you take it inside the plane? And did they weight some of these as weight of luggages? We are taking Lufthansa and there is allowed just 20 kg per adult, so it is 40 kg for us and only travel bad has 10kg, Big package of diapers as I weighted it is almost 3kg. And if they will weight stroller or car seat that will be not managable. So how is it?

Hi Priya,
we are going to Rajasthan to Kota. The main problem I can see is travel by train, there is no plane possible. We will take Rajdhani I.AC but still, going to Mumbai cetral with my son is scary. Your son got infection from bottle? Or from something else, what I should be carefull? I selected to go at his 5 months, because I will still fully breastfeed and our doctors for travel medicine told me it is the best precotion.
Did you take with you some special sterilizating tablets for pacifier and bottles? And what about antimalaric tablets, did your son use it?
And did you take car seat, pram or stroller? We are still thinking which combination is the best. I dont know if to take car seat or pram or umbrella stroller, but I think that strollers and prams are quite useless for indian streets. How you did it? Did you travel by train in India? I dont know how to give him sleep there, therefore think about taking pram.
And can I get in India we tissues for cleaning him after changing diaper? And its quality?

Hi Priya,
thanks for info. It is doubled price than here.I found some very old message board on internet (from 1995 yr.) and somebody wrote there that diapers which can buy in India are not that good quality as in USA.
I am from Czech rep. So we have sure same as you in germany. Is indian Huggies and Snuggies same quality as ours? That massage was very old, so I think it had to improve.
Have you been in India with such small baby - 5 months? I would like some advices for travel. Actually my husband is from India so we are going to visit his family, but I am scared from this trip.
If you have been in Idnia with such kid can you share your experience? I would be happy. I have so many of questions :). You can reply to my email marti@seznam.cz
