hi all,
my babyis 4 1/ months old, and is completely on my feed.
he doesn't sleep fo more then 1 hour at a stretch even at night.
it is becoming very difficult to cope. I even took him to the doc whois not keen to start supplements.
Also, my baby wants to be picked up all the time, wants to be walked which is becoimg very difficult.
Pls advice how i can cope with his lack of sleep, feeds and his habit of being picked.
this is my first baby.

Hi ,

first of all, congrats on your first baby ! it cab very trying to have a baby that doesn't sleep for more than an hour.As long as your baby is putting on weight properly , I think you needn't worry about BM being enough or not.

I found with my son it was not the picking up but being kept flat on bed all the time that was irritating. Of course, they need to be held for sometime - why don't you try keeping him in a rocker/car seat upright ( or slighly slanted back ) for some time in a day .or sometimes even keeping his head a lil higher using pillow or book under the head side of the bed may help. Sometimes I think they cry out of boredom or stomach pain. My son used to love being put on his stomach for some time in a day - even before he was 3 months old . I used to do this about an hour or so after his feed for about 5 mins.

Also how long do you feed your baby at each feeding ? and at what frequency ( every 2 -3 hours ) ?Maybe he's not getting enough hind milk and that's why he starts crying again becasue the foremilk in more watery.

hi Minka,

Thanks for responding , am trying to do what you suggested. But yes it becomes difficult since he dosn't have a routine.

I feed him on one B for approx 10 min.
ALso the duration of feeds varies, sometimes its 2 1/2 hrs, sometimes its just 40 min to an hr.
I actually want to do two things since he is now 4 1/2 months old, one make his routine so that he sleeps more at night time and also start on semi solids, can you guide me how to go about it.
Most of my friens started semi solid after 4 months but my doc is advising againest it.
Pls advice.
regds.
