Trying since long:Sad Story
2005-09-14
Name: Rainbow Sun

Ammas, please hear out my sad story and let me know if you have any
suggestions. I am 30, have been trying to conceive since last 2.5 years. I
conceived naturally once and miscarried in 6 weeks. I was diagnosed
with PCOS and have been taking Metformin from 2 years. I had 5 IUIs and 2
IVFs recently with no luck. We had lots of hopes on IVFs and infact
waited before we went for it thinking to conceive naturally. But the first
IVF, I had some hyper stimulation but had like 18 eggs out of them. On
day 5, there were 2 Grade 3 on 3 Grade 2. On day 5 2 of Grade 2 were
transfered. The ones left after transfer got degenerated next day. But
after 2 weeks , the repeat blood test showed -ve. Doc advised to wait for
one month and go for another one since what happened was simply like a
probability and no real reasons. Second one was done with a little less
medication due to last hyper stimulation. This time I had around 7 eggs
and only 4 fertilized. 2 Grade 1 and 2 grade 3. We asked for transfer
of all 4. Had my second blood test yesterday which showed -ve. I am
going to consult the doc 2 days after but please hear me out. I am really
worried now that there is some other undiscovered problem like is the
egg which is of good quality (Grade 1) not able to implant or did it
implant but I miscarried? Here, I had breast tenderness for 1 week after
the transfer but then it vanished for last 1 week. I dont know if it was
due to medications for stimulation or pregnancy. Also I noticed a white
thread like substance discharged when I was urinating during both IVF
cycles. This happened around 1 week after the transfer and for my second
IVF I saw 2 of them clearly. I am confused and worried on what is
happening. Having done it twice makes me hesitant to believe it is only
probability. What if we do again and it fails? Is there anything else I
need to ask the doc to find out before I try again?
We both are successful at work and are well settled in US financially.
But nothing gives comfort when you desire so much for a baby. I am
getting into a kind of depression due to this.
Please help on what could my next step be. I've a consultation appt tomoro, please advise on what I could talk to the doctor about the next step.

Hi Rainbow Sun,

I am so sorry to hear abt wht u r going thru.My dear each of us in this group are experiencing one or the other problems. All i can say is please dnt lose ur faith in god and dont expect anything. I mean just relax.U mentioned u r getting into depression after all (i knw how it feels) but pls dear try to keep tht away bcos thts one main thing tht can change a lot of thing....with depression going the hormones vary all the time so just relax and forget abt it...just pray to god and believe in him.he knws wht he has in store for u.

I knw its easy for me to say but dear i am going thru problems of my own and getting out of wht i go thru each month when it turns negative is just terrible. But with friends support and their good and heartfelt advice i tend to get over it with time.

SO hang in there, we are here for u.Take a break, go to some place where u always wanted to go with ur hubs and just give it a try but dnt keep it in mind all the time.Just go to enjoy.I am sure things will work out.

ALl the best and loads of baby dust on u and all of us.

Lots of luv

Rupa

Hi,
I am so sorry the IVF did not work out. I had an IVF 2 yrs back[a grade A embryo and a grade B ebmryo were transferred] and my blood test was + but I miscarried within 3 wks of pregnancy. After that my Dr. suggested we go in for IUI[ I had already had 5 in the past] again as the body is fully prepared for a pregnancy thanx to the hormones they pump in during IVF. She put me on Letroz, Baby aspirin and a tonic, Evatone. U will not believe this. I actually got pregnant inspite of the failed IVF! I now have a cute 1 yr. old son. So I suggest u think about IUI as well.

Hi Rainbow sun,

I was sorry to hear ur experience.I too went through 3 IVF.The 1st 2ivf failed.I changed doctor and last ivf worked.I had 1grade 1 and 2 grade 2 embroyo transferred the last time.
I want to know whether ur are taking progrestrone supplements orally or inserting.Because for me the oral supplimennts worked.
U had grade 1 embryo which is good.I suggest u take a lot of rest for 2 weeks next time after the transfer.I took 2 full days of bed rest(except go to loo) and other days didn't go out or do any work( I took leave from work).
Don't loose hope and try once again.Maybe it will work.Third time lucky like me.Believe me once u conceive all this misery will be forgotton.I too used to get v.depressed after each each ivf failed.
So chin up and best wishes to u.

Rainbow Sun, don't feel sad.....Can you believe it, your story is just like mine. I have however no PCOS, but high FSH (fewer eggs) and had gone through two IVFs. The latest IVF resulted in postive preganancy but miscarried at 6 weeks (no heartbeat was found). It was so depressing for me. Its now one year after that and i have stopped for a break to recover my body. We have been ttc for over 4 yrs now.

In my opinion, you had good grade embies so maybe somewhere after transfer support has gone wrong. Did you get enough progestrone support.. Maybe you could ask your RE to change your protocol to get better support after transfer.

You'd think it would get easier over time but it just doesn't. But hang in there and don't lose hope.

Good Luck & lots of baby dust!
