Why do we Indians indulge in a high calorie diet after delivery? Is there a need and does it have any scientific reason? I want to have a healthy and low fat diet post delivery but I know this wont be possible with my in-laws presence. am I wrong?

Eating high calorie foods post delivery will lead to weight gain. Though much of calories are burned during breastfeeding but too much calories can pose a problem both for the mother and the baby. Eat healthy and you will be healthy.

High calorie foods are not required post delivery. Post delivery women in India are given foods high in ghee and oil as the body needs calorie for breastfeeding. This culture has been passed on from ages but scientifically there is not much significance.
