Feeding:bottle feed problems for 4 month old

Hi all
my son is 4 months old. he refuses to drink milk from bottle. he was on breastmilk for 2 months. From 3rd month i started both breast and formula for 1 feed. he was ok when i started to work he started taking bottle feeds during the day and night breast feed. But 2 weeks back he started refusing bottle even though he was hungry. Then my mothe inlaw started feeding in spoon. he takes that. But this becomes a hassle every where. So i started cereals from 1 weeks since this problem. now he takes 2 times cereals with formula and 3 formula feeds sometime have to feed by spoon. now i am worried how to make him feed in bottle whenever we go out it will become a problem this way. Can someone guide me.
thanks
sita

Have you tried changing bottles ? Or move to faster flow nipples ? Try a sippy-cup ? This is all I can think of..

Join the club!!

The other posts have given good advice and I find the same too!!

I think this is just the start of the problems and it is going to continue on and off. your child is likely to be teething too and that can be a slo....w process.

1. There is parent's choice bottles with nipple, sipper and spoon - that is great under dire circumstance (even better than the avent sipper!!). you can buy this at walmart. It flows in a small stream and if you are getting really irritated, you can also press from the back to accelerate the flow.

2. larger hole nipple is important!! as they grow they need a larger hole or they will just refuse to drink. i found this pretty late!! (just throw the older ones and buy new age appropriate ones)

3. worst case scenario: mix milk powder with yoghurt (my son loves this) and give water separately - atleast it avoids the mess of spoon feeding liquid milk. check with the dr. if your child is allowed to have yoghurt.

4. starving did not help my son - he starved without even crying too much, lost weight and came down to 3rd percentile - i was almost freaking out and i started trying all these other alternatives and he is slowly picking up.

Hi Sita,
I can understand your problem very well since i was in the same position as you..i had to struggle a lot to feed her..but i made big(not so big) hole to my daughters nipple and started pouring into her mouth when i am out...now she is 15 months old..now the hassles are with her food she eat...this continues if you dont really make her use to the bottle..i know this is hard to say but let her starve for sometime so that she has no other option than to take the bottle..i couldnt do this,as that was very hard for me but she was drinking with the bottle sometimes when she was too hungry and no other choice left....may be you can try that...good luck..hope this works for you...
