Hi, my son is 5 months old, i started on his solid 2 weeks back. off late he has developed very hard stools. he keeps straining and grunting and does not motion even after 2 days. As i could not c him suffering i inserted a laxative and after that he has been passing loose stools for almost 3 days now. I read couple of messages where they advice to give prune juice to the baby. if someone can adivse me to how to prepare the prune juice would be of great help.

Pls help this desperate mother who is in distress.

Since yr baby is so young, try to water down the solid and supplement more formula. Give him a small cup of organic apple juice. Just increasing his fluid intake will prevent constipation. It is very common to have the baby be constipated when you first introduce solids. That is why, try one solid meal a day every other day till his digestive system gets used to it. Always start with iron rich rice cereal then moving on to mixed grain cereals. Your son has a long time before he is ready for cooked food like peas and rice.

Hope this helps.

RE:Baby cries while passing urine - Hetal pls advice
At the same time the child is feeling some pain So try to understand and consult a doctor.... - sharmasanvi [View Message]
RE:bowel movement in 2 week old infant
Some babies go through phases when they either can't use the muscles to empty their bowels or they "forget how to". In that case, it's safest keep using the suppositories daily to make them do a dirty in 5 minutes.... - Su 03 [View Message]
RE:where can I get laxative?
You can get either glycerin or bisacodyl suppositories in any Indian pharmacy - I recommend saving money by not buying child-size ones, instead cutting adult supps in half to make a child-size dosage.
(I have a daughter with long-term bowel issues: she can't "do" without them!)... - Su 03 [View Message]
RE:constipation
When the baby is in discomfort from constipation (especially if she hasn't done some dirty for two days or more), the first thing you should give is a glycerin suppository.... - Su 03 [View Message]
RE:hi
Most doctors say banana doesn't help - the potassium in it makes constipation worse. Remember you can make your own prune puree in a blender. Grape, grapefruit and papaya are also laxative fruits. And remember you can safely use baby suppositories as often as you need to (they also help with "training" the baby to do a dirty at the same time every day)... - Su 03 [View Message]
RE:Baby Movements/Development
Consult a good doctor immediately as this should not be ignored as it will cause a big issue if you let it go now, please seek doctors advice on immediate basis.... - Aditi [View Message]
RE:Baby Movements/Development
Hi there please be calm and relax as it happens sometime the child takes little time to start walking or crawling also but in your case the child should have started crawling if not walking.... - Anita [View Message]
