Working Mother:Sharing responsibilities
2009-06-06
Name: Mrs X

Hi, I am a working woman living with my husband and six year old daughter. My husband does not share any responsibilities at home. His sole contribution to the house is paying the rent.Rest all I have to do. I have a very dumb maid who does not do anything properly and I have to do each and everything in the house. Something as simple as picking up a glass or putting dirty clothes in the laundry basket is too much for my hubby to do. Buying groceries, cleaning, teaching the kid....everything is my sole responsibility. Are all Indian men like this? Is this the situation with all working women? I have tried talking to my husband about this but to no avail, he just continues with the same behavior. I feel tired all the time and bitter and resentful It just doesn' t seem fair! Should I just accept it as my fate and continue in the same way?

Hi, i agree it can be pretty tiring at times, especially that coming from somebody whom we call as our life partner. & no, not all indian men are like this. firstly, you dont have to put up with a dumb maid, as she can only add on to the stress rather than being a help. Get a new maid. Secondly, about your husband, it can be family too. How does your in-laws behave in this manner? Do they make a guy sit & let the girl do all the work? do you really enjoy working or are you working to help your family financially? if your husband thinks that his part is only to work outside & bring home money then you can just stay at home & do house chores & enjoy the money that he brings. try that trump card on him. & see if he is giving in atleast a bit. dont give up. you can write back to me.
