Feeding:When & How to Start Giving Water

Dear Mums,

Pls share ur experiences with me. When did u start giving water to ur baby?
How much did u start with & how often in a day did u give it?Did u give it frm a BOTTLE?
My son is going to 5 months old on Oct 24th. I have so far given him water twice - abt 2-3 tbsps in a day & he has had that ok ..I gave him frm a katori & spoon.
pls advise

hi Nidhi, i have a 6 month old son , and he drinks water from a glass.i dont give him much . maybe couple of sips especially after solid foods as it helps in digestion and avoids constipation.

Hi Nidhi,
Children don't required too much water at this age. If your breast feeding then he dosn't require too much. Just gv him after every meal. And if the weather is too hot keep offering water after every 1-2 hrs. Children feel more thirsty when its hot.

Hi Nidhi,
Here is what I did with my son when he was 5 months old. I gave him about 2-3 tbsp after every time he ate solid food. Some days I gave him little more but it was from spoon only. He was eating 2 -3 times solid meals during days and rest of the time he was on formula. I didn't give him water any other time besides when he ate. I didn't want to substitue his milk intake with water.

However, I feel water is good for baby. When you give water after they eat, it helps them to digest their food and they don't get constipated.
