Feeding:what should i feed my son

Hi,

My son is totally breastfed. I has not used a bottle so far. My Ped has adviced me to start on rice cereals in formula. Is it ok to mix formula or is it better to mix the cereals in breast milk and give. Which brand of rice cereals should i give and what quantity? is there any other homemade semi-solids i can give?

Should i buy gerber 1 fruits and vegetables or i can boil them at home and give it?

Please advice...i am very confused.

Hamsa,
If you have Oster blender, You can buy very small \";Chutney\"; Jar. You can make fruits in it. However make sure you steam (To disinfect) the fruits first except of course Banana etc.. but pears, Apples, Grapes etc... should be steamed first than put in blender.

How did giving head bath go? Are you cofortable now? Did you survive plane Journey? Hope your baby doesn't find too cold here. (Atlanta right?)

Love to your little one!

Good Luck!

Hey Hamsa?
Are you same Hamsa who just came to US from India? If yes, welcome. :) How old is your son?

Give that your son is 4 + months and your ped says it's ok to give him solids, you can use Gerber's or Earth's best (Organic) rice cereal to him. You can find this at the regular grocery store. how much to give and all is written on the cereal box. You can give Rice cereal either way. Either in formula or your breastmilk. What ever
you are comfortable with. If you have breast pump, you can pump your milk and put it in cereal.

Now about the fruits and veg:

My experience says you should make it home rather than giving him Gerber jars. Kids get hooked on those things and it is hard to make transition from jar to home cook food when they get older. Plus those jars don't have much calorie in it. If you do it at home you can add all the nutrition in it. if you need receipes let me know.

My son who is now 19 months old, had hard time to go away from jar to home cook food.

Good luck! Love to your little one....
