Hi,
our son will be 23 months during our planned travel to india next month. He will be 2 yrs and 1 month when we return the following month back to usa. so can I still get a infant fare(lap child) for him (our plan is malaysian airlines) eventhough he will be less than 2 when we depart, but will be 2 by the time we return?!! I get conflicting answers from different travel agents.

Would appreciate answer from anybody who had been in the same situation!

Dear Sangeetha,

I have been in a similar situation, the only difference is that the trip involved was within US. I guess the same rules hold good for International trips also. In our case, our son was a few days short of 2 when we started our trip. So, the Airlines said that he could travel free (as is the case within domestic US). Our return journey was a few days after his 2nd Birthday and the Airlines said that we had to get a ticket for him (there was some discount) as Federal law requires all children above 2 years of age to have a separate ticket.

Hope this helps you. You may want to check with Malaysian Airlines diectly on this.

I checked with the Malaysian and was told that he is eligible to travel as an infant :-) !
