Eating Problems:Getting my son out of drinking milk @ night
2001-01-11
Name: Pam

My son is now 21 months. Night time he needs to drink milk while he sleeping. He drinks almost 15 ounces in a night time. I heard that it is not good for his teeth. It is very difficult to get him not to drink. I make him eat his dinner well, but he still needs the milk bottle. Any suggestions to get him out of this habit, PLEASE!.

There is no reason for worry. Just slowly wean him away from bottle. He might cry for a few days. But, that is okay. Meanwhile, as you have already said, feed him a wholesome dinner and register the point that this is the end of the feeding. Also remember what you did when you weaned him off the breast. Repeat the same tactid.

One has to just break the connection between sleep and bottlefeeding. So just concentrate on this aspect. Talk more about this wrong connection with your child.

The solution lies in feeding him well while he is awake, so that he does not feel hungry during bedtime.

I have a 15 month old girl who used to ask for bottle at night until 1 year...she had 8 teeth by then. But i knew i had to wean her. So when she asked for milk..i used to give water ina cup instead. I kept doing this for 5 days and she stopped waking up for milk. Now i feed her well at night and give her milk after breakfast in the morning. She is doing pretty well.
