My son is two years old. Although he is uttering some \";words\"; but is not able to speak any complete sentences. We are trying to teach him to speak by telling one or the other word. He is trying to copy our words but could not do completely and uttering some of our words. I am very much worried when he will be able to speak complete sentences.

Hi Shatshal,

just let me know a few things b'fore i suggest to you what to do ....
Does your son go to nursery?
Does he play outdoors with other kids whre he has to interact?
do you read any books / stories o him
do you spk more than one language at home
do you think he might have some problem with his hearin( dont worry thisa routine question a profesional would ask you) ?

Just let me know on these before i advise you consult someone....i am pretty sure that a consultant will also ask you to wait until he goes to school ....

Hi Anand ,
My son is 2yrs 4mths , but he is still not able to speak sentences . Infact we have been worried sick about it , but the healh visitors keep asking us to wait until he starts pre-school.( which will be in months) . However just lately my son has picked a lot more words & just out of the blue he recited johny Johny ( full poem ) on his own 2 days ago . I was so excstatic .....cant explain it . Just remember one thing , that as long he is able to say words , it means he can hear you properly & has the ability to speak . He is just being lazy & is taking his time & boys are often known to do that . The key is , just keep reading story books to him , keep talking to him like you would talk to any other person & soon he will talk back to you.

trust me i've been there so i know it is very worrying , but children go thru growth spurs & then they pick up things suddenly .....so pls dont worry & give it time. Pls send him to play group ( so that he is forced to explain himself to strangers ) .

Jus keep trying & he will be there soon . I would only be worried if was not speaking at all. Once he is 2.5yrs & if is still not speaking more , then i woul recommend consulting a professional ( but honeslty i dont think you will come to that stage )

Good luck & give it time& dont compare him to other kids ...thats the worst thing !!
