Feeding:Average Weight

hi
my baby is almost 8mo now and he is skinny...How much should a 8mo be?
but doc says i have never seen an active baby like yours,.. when we had been to his ped this weekend, he did all his feats to impress the doctor and the doc had a comment like this..
she was very happy that hs was so active and in turn told me that i should match his activeness by giving him extra calories. She told me that Rice has the max calories and asked me to give him rice and dhal, if not anything else..

He is more than the 100th percentile in height for his 8 mo... and when the Ped made him stand.. she exclaimed that he looked like a i year old..!!! and becuse of hs height the weight is not seen though he is on his average weight...

Please tell me
1. apart from rice and dhal, what extra should i give him so that he puts on a little weight atleast...
2. He had a mild eczema so i stopped giving formula, except for my breast feeds...he doesnt have any milk intake,... and also citrus juices. What liquid stuff can i make him have as he just has all solids and water for liquid...

Hi Gee,

You should start with juices and rice cereal mixed with your milk (since you are not using formula, you should mix the cereal with your milk). In juices few doctors recommend not to start with citrus and tomatoes. Start with apple, grapes, papaya juices, if you are in states then find out for Gerber juices they are also good for babies. If in India then fresh will do ( I am not sure if Gerber is availble in India). Rice is the most light food for babies, try giving him homemade yoghurt too. You can mix youghurt and rice together too. For all this always make sure that you introduce only one food at one time. If it is yoghurt then try giving him for one week and then see how he is reacting to it. Do not introduce dal, yoghurt, rice in one day, have a difference of one week in every introduction. The child gets confused with different tastes. Try mashed potatoes, sweet potatoes, papaya, any fruit which you feel can be mashed or boiled.

I hope this will help, I am not so experienced but trying to help........Bye......Neetu
